  5. There are structural issues that the conservatives should have solved.
    1) austerity- no, borrow and invest while interest is low
    2) mortgages- reforms were recommended for longer, fixed rates but took too long to come into effect
    3) energy – uk should have become a center for green technology.
    4) trade – less importing and more exporting

  14. They only got rid of Boris Johnson because he became a liability to the party, as demonstrated by the last local council elections. Replacing him with an equally corrupt and/or incompetent leader isn’t going to help. The party probably wouldn’t be quite as unpopular if it was Mordaunt in charge. But they would only really regain popularity if the party wasn’t so systemically corrupt or willing to sacrifice the many for the rich.

    Boris did himself in by being Boris Johnson. The press suddenly decided to remember a load of obvious things about Boris and the Tory Party. They got rid of him after he continued to ruin their reputation for half a year and then they got in someone even more mental.

    Unfortunately Labour also don’t want to take charge so it’ll be a battle of “how stupid can we look”
    And I still think there is so much infighting in labour that conservatives will marginally win an election
