A Zionist is someone who believes that the state of Israel should exist and supports the state of Israel.
It has lots of connotations now, but that’s the gist of it.
Well played Liz.
Now everyone will be afraid that if they criticise her they’ll be labeled a racist.
It’s things like this that makes me think poor jezza didn’t have a chance in fucking hell of being PM…
Why does she need to come out with these statements at this current time? I think ambiguity would suffice right now. I think most people, who she is meant to be serving, are mostly interested in not starving, keeping warm, affording their mortgages, and being looked after when they’re ill or old. I’ll worry about the Middle East when I can afford my gas bill, my weekly shop, and when I get my hip replacement.
I don’t think the “zionist” is the problem. I think the “huge” might be.
People who believe Israel ought to exist do not necessarily support the continuation of expansion and the use of violence to secure that expansion. However there is a kind of fundamentalist zionist who not only believes Israel should exist, but that an Israel of a certain *size* ought to exist and in various ways lend support to efforts to capture additional land.
The belief that Israel ought to exist beyond its internationally recognised borders means that conflict is inevitable and fuels violence in the region.
The adjective “huge” might suggest she’s one of those people.
