Jesus Christ. If I could I would help the person. And of course they could use the place as long as they tidied after themselves.
The state of things now is getting mental.
The Republic of Ireland … Wasted on us.
Same horse, different jockey.
Michael Collins died for this
I stayed on a couch of a friend for 2 weeks. The worst two weeks of my life.
My new house mate lived in her car for 3 weeks, showering at the gym, using public toilets and eating out.
That kind of life is unbearable
The usual pro-government lads will be along now to explain how it’s worse in other countries, and sure haven’t we got a great little country according to the stats.
Fuck FF/FG

I love how people keep saying a van. Not everyone can drive, therefore a transport vehicle isn’t needed, so paying for one to sleep in, is pointless.
Not to mention that’s not an acceptable place to expect anyone to sleep.
This country is a joke, people should have a roof over their heads that is affordable to live in.
The fact that Irish people are so laid back about people literally begging for anything, especially a place to sleep safely is ridiculous.
College should be available online.
Universities should be forced to provide all education remotely.
This situation was predicted months ago.
It’s absolutely scandalous that people think this is a better situation than having lectures online.
In other news.. bunch of Foreign billionaires just donated 400k a piece towards a gaa project to get Irish Citizenship i.e tax exile status
What a country 😔
That is by far the most pathetic thing I’ve ever read online.
People shouldn’t be having to live like this in a modern western country.
Where are you?
This is a sad situation, but if I was in a position to help this person, I’d rather he use my kitchen than his camping cooker indoors.
This has absolutely depressed me.
We tried living in Ireland in 2015, 7 years ago this month actually, and couldn’t find a place to live then either. We hadn’t heard about it until we got there, and then all we saw was “housing crisis” everywhere.
So after more than 7 years is it still a crisis or is it more like incompetence?
It really seems to me that the education is not about the college anymore but it is now about learning how to survive homelessness. Almost like an apprenticeship for what lies ahead!!
Sad sad times and a piss poor government!
Fuck sake this is so depressing.
We are very vocal about vulture funds and TDs gouging the hard up, why do we seem to not have the same ire for our neighbours, friends and family who have upped their rents years after year?
My last landlord didn’t up the rent in 10 years, when I left I asked why? She said I’ve the house paid off, i make a bit off it still and I’m comfortable. She said I’d have to be awful greedy or stuck to have to do that and if I was stuck I’d just sell it.
Recently a lady in my town had a doubling of her rent, it was done through an agent but the owner was another local. That is so unethical to me. I don’t begrudge anyone making a second income but when It becomes fucking out families on their ears to make an extra few quid a month it goes too far.
How dare any of us here suggest human lives are more important than profit and GDP! for shame I say
That’s terrible. Really depressing. Hope they find somewhere.
I remember when I was in university you had the pick of a dozen or so properties to choose from, rents were at an actually reasonable level and you could pay the entirety of your rent and utilities with a job on the weekend even besides SUSI grants or parents helping out, and I’m not even that long out of university by any means.
Students are getting so utterly fucked these days it’s unbelievable.
The government should declare an emergency and direct that all universities and ITs around the country move to online/distance learning like they did with covid wherever possible. At least that would take some of the pressure off as many could study from home while living with parents.
Just saw campus security call the gards on a man living in his van in the Maynooth Car Park. Gardaí said it wasn’t their problem and left.
If this winter is hard, they will be collecting dead bodies in doorways and alleyways. The government can do nothing about the housing crisis as they have already signed up to the builders and developers. Who only have an interest in the bottom line, and not the welfare of the people. The government totally reneged on its responsibility to protect the people of Ireland and have sold the future of the young generation for political donations.
If this keeps up FFG/DUP will have to give themselves another pay rise.
So bloody sad.
my boyfriend is currently homeless. on the days he cant stay in my house, i do stay with him out in a tent. its getting cold now and we’re on low income. i dont know how we’ll survive the winter.
More interviews with Leo squirming on TV please.
Anyone have a link to the post?
I had a fear I would also request for any kind of bed when I started college as a fresh undergraduate last week. Because last week I have been constantly taking trains from County Tipperary to Dublin everyday. I had fears of not having the time to study and no time to socialize with my friends this way.
Luckily someone never turned up to their Accomodation on the campus so I am very lucky to move in. Although the cost of rent is very high, like maximum 750 quid a month. But I would be scared on what would happen if I would end up taking trains for three hours everyday to get home only to realize I have to go to sleep and do the same the next day. I would find it extremely hard to study on the train and yet again not having the time to engage with anyone after school is just depressing. Let’s not forget the cost of living in Dublin. My college is organizing a walkout on Thursday with thousands of students hopefully attending so that our demands are heard: https://costofcollege.usi.ie/
I was homeless after being trafficked and a stay in a mental hospital. It was horrible. I had a few people I could stay with but after a while nobody really wants you. It takes everything you’ve got out of you and crushes it.
I had a hotel room toward the end, paid for by street prostitution, and it felt like a palace. It was a very shit hotel but it was so much better than the last year it was heaven.
If there is a clause in our constitution which says citizens are entitled to housing, does this mean the government are in breach of our constitutional rights – sorry I don’t know the correct lingo. But is it time to start a go-fund-me scheme to take the bastards to court for breaking the constitution? This question has been in my head all week.
I got my eviction notice last week. Gonna buy a camper van and wash at work. I m a 44 year-old fireman with a 12 year-old son…this is bullshit.
Ah yes, the hidden homeless. Nobody care lad, especially not those in government. All the best. You might get a mention on a radio show tomorrow.
International Master’s student here. Landlord is terminating the lease earlier, leaving residents in a hassle. Need to find housing again and it’s one of the most difficult things ever in the midst of studies.
What the absolute fuck man. Idk, I feel like accepting a cash payment from someone willing to suffer through this would be immoral.
