Sainsbury’s driver refuses to hand £68 order to customer, 37, for not having ID

  1. If a 12-year old went through checkout with a pack of sausages they wouldn’t check their ID, so why are they checking ID of a 38 year old who did not order tobacco or alcohol

  2. Sounds like a shit situation, the driver was just following the procedure, he does look young and could pass for under 25. I do find it hard to believe that someone can get to 37 and not have some form of photo ID though.

  3. So it appears that all supermarkets have this policy for home deliveries (you have to be 18+ accept it regardless of whether or not it contains age restricted items).

Very vague about *why* though. If anyone could explain that, that would be great.

  4. The underlying problem is they take the money from account regardless so if something like this does occur your out of pocket for 2/3 days it takes the refund to hit your account, longer if before the weekend

We had something similar happen a couple Christmas’s ago there was a logistics problem all deliveries in area got cancelled last minute but they still took the money which didn’t get refunded till after the weekend.. not the same as gentleman in article but the payment system itself is a shit show

  5. No judgement but Im not sure I’d be routinely shopping at Sainsburys on benefits neither would I be getting food delivered. Best get a taxi from Aldi or Lidl….

  6. How do we know he is 37 if he doesn’t have photo ID? I think he is 12 and his parents are on holiday.

  7. all I can think is that staff are under pressure to avoid serving to anyone underage, I saw a woman obviously over 18 and looked 30’s – handed over driving licence and said ‘DOB 1988’

  8. Different story if he was under 18 and ordered alcohol on his mum’s account and they just handed it to them.

  9. I’m 31 I don’t get asked for ID because I’m ugly which makes people look older and I have a beard which again makes men look older. 😂
