Every Halloween is a quite, nice Halloween by simply deactivating your doorbell.

  1. Absolutely this, did this yesterday already just so I wouldn’t forget. I love my silent weekends

  2. I never in my life had someone ring my bell on halloween. Where are you located that this is necessary?

  3. I had that doorbell in my place in Zurich. My neighbor had the same. Her’s was programmed with Mozart’s [Sonata no. 11 Alla Turka](https://youtu.be/aeEmGvm7kDk). She ordered a lot of stuff online, take away delivery, grocery delivery and always had friends coming over, so I would hear that song coming through the wall a lot. To this day, if I hear that song, my pavlovian response is to think my neighbor has someone ringing her bell and I don’t even live there anymore.

  4. I live on the bottom floor in Lausanne and people were knocking on my windows asking for candy for their kids. This is my first Halloween in Switzerland, is this a thing?? It happened several times.

  5. Love the way trick or treating it’s picking up its a sweet thing for local communities.. But my little dude is asleep so did the same after 730

  6. I’m an American living here and I’ve never had anyone ring my bell trick or treating. Is that a thing here?

  7. Just had kids ring the doorbell. Well I saw it on my camera, because I wasn’t home. None of them had a costume on. I don’t think they understand how this works. No mask either.

This is not the first time I see this. I wonder what people give them, because not everybody has candy laying around.

  8. I do the same thing every year too. Proud /r/BUENZLI s unite!

Can we just introduce the rule, that kids should only ring on doors that have some kind of Halloween decoration? Everyone else clearly has no interest in participating, so leave them alone.

  9. I’m fine with kids ringing on the door. It’s a special night, they’re mostly 7-12 yrs old and it’s an adventure for them. I also got two daughters and well… I just want them to have fun and enjoy the sweets. I know some might be annoyed by the door bells, but come on, let the kids be kids and let them enjoy their carefree childhood 🙂 We were three zombie pokemons tonite xD haha

  10. Kids rang my bell, had no sweets. Gave them some fancy low sugar protein bars. Kids gonna be strong.

  11. Wow that’s cold. I feel this is esp wrong to post on r/Switzerland because it confirms a cultural stereotype of Swiss people as devoid of warmth or capacity for human connection with strangers. No smoke without fire I guess?

  12. I have exactly the same doorbell as you and no user manual of course. Thank you for this very helpful tip for the next years as Halloween is more and more followed in Lausanne.

  13. BruH so you are the guy who was lights on, kids come at the door for just 2 minutes of your time to have candies and you just ignore them even if they know they’re is someone here

  14. Their wasn’t anyone coming for halloween by our place except our cousins

    (But we were expecting them)

  15. It was the biggest turn out i’ve ever seen here in CH in the next village to me. Must have been 200+ kids out . Fully endorsed by the commune who put on stands with hot wine, beer, soup etc around a couple of the fountains.

Loads of houses where lit up with pumpkins and decorations, some really went for it. Those who didn’t were not disturbed. Really good night, the kids came home with a kilo of sugar each!
