  1. > [The driver] is currently working for a courier company.

No mention in the article of him losing his driving license.

And some people still don’t understand the need for safe cycling infrastructure and greater enforcement of traffic laws.

  2. What’s the fuss all about? it’s not as if the driver was committing a serious offense, such as conducting a vehicle 3 days after he smoked weed.

  3. Fascinated how someone can get an actual criminal conviction for something like this and ever be allowed behind the wheel of a car again

  4. Is this that popular Nolan fella? Seems like he is easily bribed or has a messed up view of justice and fairness. I bet he batters his wife too

  5. I know he only got charged and prosecuted for endangerment, but how was he also not charged with dangerous driving? Possibly because that carries a mandatory driving ban…?

I have a mate who was put off the road recently for dangerous driving. He was bipolar disorder and was released from a psychiatric unit while still in a manic phase, and 2 days later was involved in a low speed car chase involving 10 or more Garda cars in which he drove directly to a different psychiatric unit. He was admitted back into a different psychiatric unit a day later, and was still banned off the roads for 4 years and told he was lucky he wasn’t going to jail.

Fucked up country we’re living in that you can basically try to murder someone with a vehicle and not be banned off the road, yet someone else in the middle of a mental health crisis is.

If you’re a professional driver the penalties should be even tougher for crimes like that

  6. There’s two sides to every story, people. The driver did not run over the cyclist. He drove ahead of the cyclist and then cut in, forcing the cyclist to either slow down or hit the car. He did it twice, and neither time was the cyclist injured – in fact the cyclist aggressively then pursued the driver down the road.

They cyclist had one of those Go-Pro video cameras on his helmet, so I’d say he was one of those annoying cyclist campaigner zealots who goes out deliberately to provoke confrontation with drivers.

    Dangerous game…

  7. Shame there’s no detail regarding mitigating factors.

It’s probably victim blaming but as a cyclist myself, I ussually avoid individuals who try to know me over at least once, I probably don’t go cycling beside them again.

Seeing the video though, it’s a deliberate clearly a hit a run. Should lose his license.
