  1. >Judge Dermot Dempsey adjourned the case to December 22 for a Probation and Welfare Report.

    >He said if the report was positive he would consider 240 hours of community service in lieu of a three month prison sentence.

  2. You can imagine the guard looking at a 50 bag, looking at the sick wife, looking at the husband then banging 6 grand Street value on the form.

  3. Interesting to see what the probation report will say

    > accused no longer buying cannabis, wife has resumed her suffering, accused should now pay with community service, justice served

  4. Don’t ever tell other people your business, seriously no one, even friends and family, some people have big mouths and will blab all your business to anyone and everyone. If I were in that situation where she needed it for medical use I’d grow it myself and only the two of us would know, grow it in a spare room where no one else goes and get the filter fans for the smell, no reason to get caught unless of course he got greedy and was selling it which might be the case but who knows.

  5. Fuck me this country is just stuck in the past on some many levels. Fuckin join the rest of the world and embrace what’s already a massive culture that exists here. Fuckin Thailand is more progressive!! Thailand!!

  6. We have a very ineffective and useless government! Keep sticking the head In the sand politicians and see where it gets ye unless its time for a pay increase for yerselves of course!

  7. Remember when Gino Kenny walked from cork with the mother of a woman campaigning for medicinal cannabis.

Not one FFFG politico met her at the gates of the Dail.

If was a Pfizer executive they would be turning sods falling over themselves to be seen near them and signing non disclosures to appease them.

We need our politic to be progressive not the opposite.

  8. I’m a non-smoker, though, shouldn’t the stuff be legalised at those stage?
If the US is considering completely doing it in all states, and Thailand, of all places, has legalised it.. Why can’t our backwards, greedy, poorly run country make some steps in the right direction? Lowering crime, providing medicinal relief for a multitude of ailments, and a load of tax to be made, being the tip of iceberg with regards to benefits for the nation.

  9. “Jason McCormack made an “incredibly poor decision” out of “desperation”, his barrister said.”

I hate the way the solicitors make people grovel and say things that are complete horse shit just to try and reduce the punishment.

  10. This is why I don’t have a little smoke. If some Garda gets wind of me having a tenner’s worth, he’ll be sliding over his bonnet like The Professionals and slapping his cuffs on me.

I like to chill out in the evening, and too often buy a four pack. Would prefer a little bit of hashish and it’d be better for me.

  11. Decriminalise this stuff, and clamp down on the criminal bands of feral kids and actually start doing something that betters society.

  12. This makes me so sad. What an absolute shame to say the very least.
I can’t even begin to imagine what his wife goes through daily with her condition, and she managed to find some relief with this.
    And now it’s gone.
JFC, I don’t know much about what goes in to legalizing it, or even decriminalising it, but some people in power who make these decisions need to take a good hard look at themselves in the mirror. For fucks sake like

  13. It’s weird, the judges seem full of compassion and discretion for the broken home brigade but seem to lack nuance for these kinds of simple possession cases. I dread to think that this couple probably had sleepless nights over this shit.

Do we not have mechanisms to stop things relatively minor from going to court? I realise there was a “supply” element to this but it was only because of his dear wife.

The legacy of this government has to be legalisation. Being able to get medicinal cannabis through a pharmacy and being able to get recreational cannabis through a licence holder, along with the development of a roadside test that can determine those who are high from those who consumed it yesterday.

I’d never touch the stuff, but I don’t want to live in a country where ordinary people are criminalised for cannabis anymore.

  14. I’m no fan of the weed myself but by fuck if the way we treat it in this county doesn’t do significantly more harm than it’s use.

  15. Drink your self silly no problem, but fuck you and your reputation if you want to heal yourself or anyone you life with cannabis.

The first medical study on cannabis was done by a Irish man, so think of that what you will.

  16. i have MS and i would love to try cannabis to see if it improves my symptoms.

hell, i dont even want it in a smokeable form as i dont smoke. CBD does nothing for me.

  17. Who exactly wins here? Are the state doing this on behalf of its citizens? I can’t speak for all of us but for me it’s just so ridiculous.

Also 240 hours community service? Think he’s enough going on being a full time career for his wife

  18. I have MS and I use CBD for pain relief and it’s ok but when I was in Canada I tried marijuana and it totally relived my pain. The problem with MS is that the symptoms are invisible to other people unless you’re in a wheelchair or need assistance walking. The pain can be unbearable at times and you would do anything to get some relief. I completely understand why the husband did it and I know it’s an illegal substance this should be thrown out.

  19. How about legalise it, tax it and house the homeless with the profits. (Obviously not as simple as it sounds, I know, so no need to comment that thanks)
