Or maybe… If there’s work to do you could pay someone a living wage to do it?
Chris philp is the sacrificial lamb about to take the blame for everything. He may be on the dole by the time most of you read this…
That works out about 5days a month for the amount I get converted to min wage.
Surely, if there is a large part of the population who can’t or don’t want to work but are forced to by inadequate benefits or punitive sanctions, the guaranteed supply of ready (if not willing) workers allows companies to depress wages?
Thought Tories were all about free markets, shouldn’t that include the labour market?
That’s interesting Chris, because on recent polling, you’re going to be on the dole soon.
I dislike him just by how he talks and every 2 min he takes a big gulp. Like his got cotton mouth or dry mouth from all the lying his does
Some red meat for the rabid right wing? Is this necessary because they did not cut the 45% tax rate?
I thought community service was for criminals, not people down on their luck. Maybe invest into occupational consultants, apprenticeship programmes, and educational options as we do with youngsters?
Now, where did I put my “Arsehole” list? I need to update it.
So there is work that needs doing. No doubt the work they will do will be for some rich tory donor who doesn’t want to pay the workers much, if anything.
I’ve lived through several recessions now, the same lines are wheeled out every time.
The Tories are tenants who’ve decided to trash the house after finding out they’re about to be evicted.
Isn’t that a job, surely if there is a job it should pay and not be ‘dole’ money?
These people really do think you are poor by choice don’t they.
Tory conference going well then?
Brainstorming ways to be bigger bastards
Yes, we could put them in some sort of communal living arrangement to better facilitate it, perhaps call them “work houses”
Many people work full time and have to claim welfare! Why don’t these detached cunts ever see the bigger picture!
That’s called a job and people should be paid minimum wage.
What he really means is supplying slave labour to his corporate mates.
Edit: typo
These comments are from 2013. Nearly 10 years ago. But still under a Tory(-led) government.
I was going to say its funny these people will always dance around this when it comes to things like disability but no this guy openly wants folks out in the fields on their crutches and wheelchairs as well.
Cameron’s spin days are long gone, Tories are full mask-off now and its pretty gross.
They will have people picking fruit and doing shifts in care homes soon. If immigration slows down then industries that rely on cheap labour will demand the government do something to help and the Tories will finally be able to get those on UC to work for their benefits, even though that will mean it will be harder for them to look for work at the same time. Those on benefits are about to find it much harder to claim the derisory pittance the government thinks they are worth.
> Work for the dole schemes have been tried in places such as Australia and the US but are politically controversial. The paper was funded by a charity founded by the Vote Leave chief executive, Matthew Elliott.
Hmm.
I don’t think people should do unpaid work for their benefits.
Pay people for their work you crooks.
If people are working, that’s called ‘a wage’, Chris. Hope that helps
Ooh does that mean we’d be guaranteed a job at at least minimum wage? Guessing not, but that would be nice.
Not a complete list either.. many sports clubs (football etc) missing from it
These schemes are dressed up as “benefiting the community” but are really just a hash up of punching down and corporate welfare. People on actual community service get treated better
Work for the Dole is a colossal scam and waste of time/resources in Australia, though of course that’s not the point (the point is beating up on the poor and vulnerable).
The funny/sad thing is that it’s kind of almost a good idea if you squint – a jobs guarantee where society actually utilised the skills of unemployed people to do something productive (like, I dunno, levelling up maybe?) – but it’s implemented in a way that just serves humiliate welfare recipients and… well, that’s about it. As ever, rightwing cruelty to the poor is not just morally reprehensible but it’s wasted economic potential.
The fact that anyone working full time has to claim benefits at all is proof enough that the system is fucked.
But endorsing what is essentially slave labour ain’t it, chief.
And where exactly are they supposed to work? Places that need work doing? Let me let you in on a little secret, Chris:

*Those places could just fucking hire someone.*
You don’t want jobs, you want slaves. Tory cunt.
