Hello all, Canadian here! My good friend’s family is originally from Finland and I am hoping to get her daughter a music book with Finnish nursery rhymes (or any sort of sound book really) for her first birthday.

I have found the below book but I think that this site sells used books and would rather gift a new one if possible and it would also be even better if it was a cardboard book so it was a little more durable.

Would love any advice or links that might direct me to something like this!

  1. The condition is stated “K5”, which means it is a new book.

Here is the same book from another store, which sells only new products: https://www.suomalainen.com/products/soiva-laulukirja?variant=21150614618201&currency=EUR

It says also “kovakantinen”, which means hard cover and the minimum age suggestion is 3 years.

Here is one which is probably cardboard and is for 1 year old babies; https://www.suomalainen.com/products/pienten-lasten-musiikkikirja?variant=30875866890329&currency=EUR

But I guess that has only tunes, and not necessary Finnish tunes since the author name doesn’t look Finnish.

  2. This book is a collection of all kinds of children’s songs, there’s lots of nice Finnish ones too, but not all of them. The music is a piano accompaniment, so there’s no singing on the audio track. The idea is that you sing along yourself. I don’t know if this is what you’re looking for or not, but it’s been a huge hit at our house and was used so much it ended up falling apart and we had to buy a new one.

  3. Pikku-Marjan eläinkirja by Laura Latvala is a classic. It doesn’t have musical notation in it, but all of the poems also exist as songs. You can probably get them on a CD.
