Maybe they should just save themselves time and outlaw being poor, feeding your family or expressing concern for anything except shareholders?
Making the unions as weak as possible wasn’t good enough for them? People are still angry enough to ballot for strike action even after all the loopholes and barriers that the government put in?
Guess they’ll just have to straight up make striking illegal! Might as well just say the quiet part out loud.
Thus, the war has already started. Money versus protest
Providing a minimum service law on the rail network is gonna be fucking difficult. We aren’t one set of employees.
You’ve got network rail providing signalling staff and fault fixing staff, so say you want 20% of trains to run. You’d need signallers obviously but what if points at a junction break ? You’d also need faulting staff. But how many ? At what depots ? Covering what areas ? Do you put full teams out ? Half teams ? What if your staff are sick ? Or on leave ? To get those faulting staff to site you need control staff to firstly inform them and to sort out re routing if it’s a particularly bad failure.
Then you’ve got toc staff. So how many guards do you need ? How many drivers ?
It’s not as simple as going X amount of trains must run. Especially when you’ll see folk refusing overtime on and around strike days.
Wow, this is exactly what’s required. Fuck all that ‘lets get the government sorted out before we drive everyone into an early grave due to cold homes and not being able to afford three meals a day’ and let’s concentrate on getting the police to crack some skulls. Then our supporters will have an orgasm over STRONG GOVERNMENT and our detractors will whine about police brutality rather than our fuck ups. Good plan!
It’s about time the people started cracking down on the shit show masquerading as a government.
They have forgotten that their role is to represent the people, not to rule over them.
I feel like they were doing a good enough job cracking down on these issues by labelling protestors “nutjobs” and “work shy” in the media.
I hope that now the policing bill is coming in that it will wake up the masses to the fact that the government is taking them for a ride.
I feel the only thing that might get the country to finally revolt is NHS nurses being seen getting arrested for daring to ask for a pay rise.
If you’re worried about the cost of living and climate change, you just need to get out there and find a better job on another planet.
Remember, a lot of people in this subreddit cream themselves at the idea of these same protestors getting assaulted or arrested. They are probably wanting off to this news as we speak
Tories are quite unabashed in letting it all hang out these days… are they trying to ensure they get outvoted in any future election? Or is this all to be accompanied by some sort of dissolution of democratic norms??
This sub calls for violence and prison time against climate activists if they cause people even minor inconveniences to make a statement.
That exact hate against the protestors is something the government are trying to capitalise on here for points.
Dark times when people are using climate protestors as a scapegoat to not even think about making any personal changes themselves, or doing anything whatsoever about the environment. Maybe we deserve what’s coming.
The government condemns Russia at every opportunity, but they’re openly copying from their play-book at this point.
Suppression of dissent, undemocratic governance that pretends to be fair, hatred of immigrants / foreigners, suppression of workers rights, broken state healthcare system, glorification of traditional values, etc.
It’s not close to the same level, but it’s clearly going in the same direction.
How long before we have our own Росгвардия (“Rosgvardiya”, the internal “National Guard force” who’s main job is beating up protestors and violently suppressing dissent)?
I don’t want to overegg the pudding, but this is how fascism happens. People allow the government to strip them of basic human rights – the right to protest, the right to civil disobedience, the right to freedom of association, the right to strike, all piecemeal and all under the guise of patriotism and law and order. This slow and piecemeal destruction of the social contract is however never enough because the underlying problem is not caused by protestors or strikers, but by massive and unjustifiable inequality in wealth and power. As long as people believe that protestors trying to prevent climate disasters and people striking for a sane standard of living are the enemy, the only logical conclusion is to continue down the same path until there are no civil freedoms left. When people are no longer able to meet their needs, when the climate catastophe leads to largescale displacement of people and ecological damage and there are not longer any mechanisms to ensure that people at the bottom of society are able to have some say in their future – well that is how you end up with the Golden Dawn, unless the conservatives get there first.
People need to understand that this absolutely terrible and is another nail in the coffin of the liberalism that is supposed to be the defining feature of our freedom.
This is their priority, not solving the issues of starving and freezing people wanting a fair pay rise after a decade of real terms wage cuts, not addressing the planet dying but banning our right to speak up against it.
Never vote Tory..
Well I’ll be quitting teaching if this happens. I’m not working where I have no rights. I know that the whole mantra of the government is to collapse the public sector so they can sell it off but we can’t fight it by ourselves. I’m sorry any of you who have children. This country is bonfire and at this point it might aswell burn.
Though I’m sure that everyone who voted Tory and who didn’t vote will be celebrating their rights being taken away.
We have a goverment who have no intention of doing the right thing,
Attempting to silence those who bring attention to their continual failures is just abuse.
We need to rid ourselves of these dangerous self serving badgerlickers.
Every single dipshit complaining in here and other subs, about how these protests are ‘misguided’ or ‘going about it the wrong way’.
THIS is partially your fault. Well done.
Instead of announcing they’re going to unveil it. Why not just unveil it?
Loosely translated as Government to make protest or opposition to their actions, or the actions of their corporate donors illegal
If I was conspiracy theorist I wonder if the people at the top of this climate activism group have links to parliament. To gain more control over the people. Will be interesting to see what new powers police will have and how they will abuse them in the coming years.

useful idiots.
As is the standard practice of rightwing ideology. Deny all evidence of their error, force through the legislation anyway.
It’s clear and blatant the current rightwing government are in bed with the fossil fuel industry. Truss is an ex-employee of BP. Add in religious zealots like Rees-Mogg who believe we’re just going to heaven if we die in a climate emergency anyway, and busy idiots like Braverman who are spraying their pants at the chance to please their righty masters, and you get results like this.
Why does the UK seem to be going full American?
You never go full American…..
Phew, we’ve a been asking for the government to take more important human rights away from the public, this shows they’re listening!
I starting to think some of the climate protesters are government plants to stop actual worker strikes with some crazy anti protest laws.
People on this sub back laws like this lmao. Brits love this stuff and will be happy that no one will be allowed to strike or protest and cause any inconvenience. The hatred for protestors here is wild. I genuinely think most brits would be happy living under a dictatorship.
I find it odd that in a week where we have had people throwing soup at priceless paintings, people dumping milk all over supermarket floors and spraying paint over buildings, the government is SUDDENLY bringing this in… because that’s not sus at all.
The popularity of the government’s actions in the real world are inversely proportional to Reddit’s opinion.
More salty tears. More desperately futile noise about how the the ‘failure’ party should be back in power, rather than any attempt to better yourself.
All the more convinced now that those people throwing soup on paintings and pooring milk everywhere are not activists.
Deployed to deliberately give the tories cartè blanche to create public support for bills silencing protests for the climate crisis.
They announce this every other week. On the off weeks it’s cracking down on immigrants.
I imagine they will just label Transport, Healthcare & Education workers as “Critical” and then restrict their ability to strike. Like they did to the police & prison officers.
Not looking forward to it, to be honest.
This is what is was all leading to then… all the stupid stunts that obviously made no sense and clearly weren’t organised by real acitvists (see people glueing themselves to electic trains, letting down tyres on electic/ hybrid cars, throwing soup at paintings, etc.) and now a clamp down on the real activism, of targeting oil companies, airports, roads, fracking sites, etc. that all had fairly wide public support. Nothing to see here guys.
“Could we fix things?”
“No just make complaining illegal”
Aah! The war on Woke.
How’s that going, assholes?
Ah yes. Because people doing disruptive protests so very often follow laws like this.
That will stop em lads
They could’ve ended this a long time ago by just agreeing to fund home insulation, not start fracking again, and divert funds away from new oil/gas permits to renewables.
Honestly the demands are pretty tame and very easy to implement.
