Shouldn’t this be brought up to a judge then instead of being on RTE?
The only shock about this now is probably to learn that there was enough evidence to convict him of it had been put together properly.
Every ounce of speculation relating to the case at the time pointed to this being exactly what happened, and also that the relationship with the priest was a bit unusual, for a priest at least. Very little was said about the possibility of a questionable relationship going on, other than in hushed tones.
A few years later we started to hear about all sorts of goings on with priests and maybe if this case had happened a little later then it might have been properly scrutinised. Ten years later the bishops of Ireland might have been happy to see a case of a sexual relationship between a priest and an adult woman.
