  1. >Christian Lindner has made his debut as finance minister by announcing a €60 billion euro injection in the climate. The funds will be sourced from previously unused debt.

    >__Lindner also said that some of the funds would be earmarked for the “digitalization” of the German economy.__

  2. Down with everyone who talked the FDP down before. They will be essential for this government modernising Germany while keeping the ideologues in both SPD and Greens in check.

  3. Let’s see where the money will be going exactly. There’s a lot of very FDP stuff that can be covered with a very thin layer of green paint and be called investment into the future or even climate investment. And calling it climate investment when it really isn’t could be used as leverage against real climate investment.

For example: As much as urgently needed digitalization is a topic, it’s more tangentially related to “climate investment” and looks at first glance like a way to pump billions into telecommunications companies.

IF the FDP delivers part of the urgent battle to get Germany on track regarding climate goals, I’ll applaud them. But until they can convince me that it’s not just a way to deliver to their corporate donors I’ll keep a very distrustful eye on them.
