Hey Everyone,

I would like to make a ceiling light out of driftwood, and I search for recommendations where could I find any within 75kms of Dublin area. I would keep the costs as low as possible.

Thank you in advance!

  1. It’s probably further than 75km’s but South Down tons of the stuff. St Johns point/ Tyrella beach all round there. Drift wood old lobster pots discarded and lost bouys. Large branches old fence posts, bring a rake and rake back the top tide weed at low tide and you’ll find plenty.

    Source: I fish there

  2. I get my driftwood on the west coast, so can’t help you there. Small tip though: head out after a bout of bad/windy/stormy weather. More driftwood gets washed up when the seas are rough.

I always come away with a better haul after a storm. If you were closer I’d give you a box of driftwood. Have lots of it.

  3. Don’t forget to treat the driftwood with something. I don’t think you are meant to bring driftwood into a house without treating it for nasty things.

I do not see much usable driftwood on Bettystown or Laytown beaches, unless someone is gathering it all quickly. I thought about collecting driftwood every time I walked the beach but there really wasn’t any to gather.
