Anpost money stolen from registered letter.

  1. Just to be cautious, especially around Christmas.
My mother in law sent money for the kids before which got stolen. The postman told us she should send it in a registered letter. So she did.
A letter came which was clearly opened and taped shut again. 300 euro was missing. The postman said he was going to call his supervisor and we logged a complaint. After chasing customer service up a few times my mother in law finally received this letter today.

Anpost also offers insurance where you declare what is in the envelope but not for money.
My mother in law lives at the other side of the country, has no smartphone, no internet and no bank branch close to her.

  2. Why are all of you calling OP dumb as if he should expect a state institution to rob his money?

Is this seriously the level of subservience you’ve all subscribed to? Get a fucking grip, this is absolutely outrageous. OP’s tax is already propping up this useless industry and now he should expect they’ll take whatever their nose catches a whiff of?
    Mental.

  3. You’re a dickhead if you’re blaming OP. Mother in law once sent a birthday card with a fiver in it and when the envelope got there it was someone else’s card in the fucking thing.

Robbing bastards shouldn’t get a pass

  4. People here acting as if 100s of birthday cards containing cash aren’t posted safely everyday.

Yes it is a risk, but shouldn’t be treated as if this is the expected outcome

  5. My friend sends me edibles from canada and the last few months they haven’t been getting through… the edibles that is… the letter arrives clearly opened and resealed 😭 I wish I could complain 🤣

  6. Fun fact: if you want to pay off a Haven mortgage earlier, they ask you to send a bank draft via mail.

  7. I mean, yeah that sucks, whoever stole it is a cunt of the highest order….

….but most people don’t need to be told to not send cash in the post.

  8. Registered post often ask you to declare a value, and this is why. The default pay out is SFA.
Even if I’m sending something that is fifty euros worth, I declare it as one hundred.

Postmen are intuitive enough to guess when something valuable is inside, and the scummy minority will open and check.

Another trick is to keep window envelopes and type addressee and address so that it looks like a generic bill or something.

  9. I get what people are saying: you should never post money full stop.
But my mother in law is from a different generation, her postman served her and the rest of her village for 30 years. Anpost was an institute and the postman a well respected man. People paid their bills in the post office, received and sent money, the postmaster was there for 40 years and knew everyone. An incorrect address want a problem for them.
It’s not about the money either, she has plenty but I find it said that her faith has been squashed.
