  1. Best to ask the national museum of Ireland for archeology. Contact Us form here. Attach your photos and details of where found etc.

The only thing I can say is the handle looks brass and the blade some type of ferrous metal.

Oh and an update would be great if you hear back!

  2. Looks like an old “fake sword” like a letter opener or wall hanging sword. The brass handle/hilt/guard is not very practical, probably is just for show.

That said, in Ireland, the relevant authorities have to be informed of any archaeology finds. You don’t have private rights to historic finds, they belong to the public/state.

  3. Not very old unfortunately. The blade is made of low quality steel. Another few years on the ground and it would have disintegrated. The copper should have turned blue or if its brass should have turned green. Looks like the handle is stamped or cast too not engraved. You can see the marks on the inside of the gaurd top left from when it was made.

  4. Speaking as a karate expert, it is difficult for us to correctly identify this relic without seeing the craftsmans stamp.

But I would stake my reputation on this being either a Hector Grey or a much more valuable John Arnott.

  5. All I’m saying is strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government! Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some… farcical aquatic ceremony!

  6. We’ve established that it’s not an artefact, but you didn’t know that – and the fact that you took it, presumably out of the country – without checking that first, is not a good look.

  7. That’s a giant Dan bar attached to a plastic he man sword

Think the dandy and he man teamed up in the late 80s

Big seller at the time iirc and every shop had them

  8. Hard to know what size it is from this photo but it looks small so more than likely a letter opener like others have suggested as well.

Post a photo of the other side and with a coin beside it for scale. You could also post it to /r/HelpMeFind.

NVM, the hilt has a very distinctive shape so i went googling. This is more than likely a cheap replica of the sword used by historically famous Castilian knight known as [El Cid](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Cid). The sword is named [Tizona](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tizona).

[Examples of the letter openers.](https://www.google.com/search?q=tizona+cid+sword+letter+opener&client=firefox-b-d&sxsrf=ALiCzsY45LFA7D1Ghgf4KQORDdro7cpNag:1665408329443&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiunIe_4dX6AhVxmVwKHQ2dBTsQ_AUoAXoECAEQAw&biw=1088&bih=511&dpr=3.53#imgrc=GW3anExoDjuAoM) The pommel doesn’t match but it’s cheaper and quicker to make if you don’t have the holes in it like the original.

  9. That’s the one Link outgrew after obtaining the master sword. His 7 year absence along with Gannondorf sending the world into the dark abyss, may explain the excessive rusting.

  10. *You* found it?

All Hail the True High King of Tara!

Wielding a rusty letter-opener, he will vanquish the rising Energy Bills and banish them to the Bogs of Begorrah.
