‘Grotesque chaos’: Sir Keir Starmer hits out at Liz Truss and says she puts ‘party first and country second’

  1. If you follow the timeline, really it’s all any of the crop of conservative governments have done with the possible exception – oddly of Theresa May.

Edit: I realise that is going to be an unpopular opinion, but given the circumstances she’s the only one that wasn’t ideologically aligned with the ERG, tried to remain on amicable terms with EU countries while trying to appease party and country divisions, and I don’t think I recall her trying to wreck 20 odd years of relative peace in Ireland.

  2. Someone needs to have a talk with the Labour HQ comms people. That speech was poorly lit, sound was off and tinny and it undermined what Starmer had to say, making it look unprofessional. And for fucksake, get him to a decent tailor.

  3. That is the nature of the Tory party.

They only pursued their ruinous Brexit because stopping it would shatter the party, they only made Johnson their leader because anyone honest would have been unable to win them a general election, they exist to perpetuate their existence and to stop others from exercising power.

  4. Time to focus on stopping animal abuse. Animals are suffering immensely.
    – boiled alive after botched slaughter
    – marine animals boiled alive
    – pigs gassed in gas chambers where they burn from the inside out

  5. She is dim enough to think she is doing what is best for the party though, while also trying to keep her own reputation alive, it would explain all the u-turns. She has an idea and blurts it out without running it past everyone, it fits the Tory vision but is so bad that it causes market turmoil. She then has to backtrack to keep the Tories vaguely in contention in the polls, which only causes more damage. She is just as bad for the Tories as she is for the country.

  6. I actually find it kind of frightening that we aren’t living in a true democracy at the moment.

The government is currently populated by individuals who are protecting their jobs over the will of the people.

Less than 1.2% of the country voted for Truss to which her mandate is not that of the last general election in 2019.

A bill has now passed that stop us from protesting if we are too noisy and causing a nuisance.

Even if this means the end of your career and the removal of your party. What’s more important; that? Or Democracy? The premise of the war in the Ukraine which we are funding…

I don’t even fully support Kier. But this is what the country wants at this present time, as our economy is in serious jeopardy.

Our energy bills are overly priced and are being funded by borrowing.

The wealthiest in the country are clearly being prioritised from what is projected in the mini budget with banker bonuses and tax breaks. Something the IMF can’t even fathom.

Interest rates will be 6% by April and mortgages are leaving people poorer additionally constricting young adults from entering the property ladder, not being able to start families and leaving no trace for the capacity to save money, rather face debt.

We’ve exited a partnership with our largest trading partner: the EU without any benefit. Forgetting all the international trade deals that were supposed to come thereafter: America? Australia? Canada?

Water companies are polluting our water like no one’s business. Even government departments question whether individuals should face criminal sentences.

    Honestly. What is going on?
