Zsar outlet mall near Russian border files for bankruptcy

  1. Not surprised. It was built predominantly for Russian tourists, looking for outlet high end brands. Covid started the problems, Putin finished them.
I was there a few times with my family. Sometimes it was just us and the salespeople.
Not surprised if the 2 x Cafe Finlandia’s on E-18 go the same way.

  2. I have never been there, but if it is anything like that outlet store opposite to IKEA Vantaa, then we are not missing much if it is gone…

  3. They put all their eggs in one basket and it didn’t pay off. I don’t think locals from surrounding area and beyond or tourists from elsewhere were thought about at all whilst coming up with this concept. Also, it is absolutely hideous, the concept and name are rather tasteless imo.

This might just be my fuckcars-grumbling, but it was rather surreal also to walk on a fake pedestrianised shopping street of a fake village that can only be accessed by car – there isn’t even a single bus line serving it. There isn’t even a pedestrian path to the Lidl just across the road, supposedly a 10 minute walk away.

  4. Been there twice, since my uncle lives in Vaalimaa. Such an eerie location: the fake european village visual trappings, frustrated looking salespeople giving you long looks when you stroll down the “streets”..
