The public need to have the power to trigger a GE in the future.
Im pretty sure she would be gone if thats the case
The longer Truss stays in power, the longer she has to cause more damage to the economy. Starmer is far from perfect but he would be a lot more stable than Truss will be. This month is going to be what the rest of her time as PM will be like, she is not going to learn or change as a result of this. An election is needed to at least get her to stick to a mandate for the foreseeable future.
Normally I disagree with endless calls for a GE and I think we’ve had enough over the last few years but now I feel is the time.
Why on earth would they though? The Tories know they’ll be destroyed if they call a GE now so, given that there’s no way for the opposition to force a GE, the Tories have everything to lose and nothing to gain by calling one (aside from self-respect and patriotism, but obviously none of them have either of those).
Absolutely. Let’s have a GE and consign the Tory cunts to opposition for a very long time.
I felt hopeful in 1997 and I wasn’t disappointed.
We need a General Election not just because of Truss, though she may well be the straw that broke the camel’s back. We need a GE to Bury the Tory Party for several decades. The fact that they’ve been robbing the poor to pay the rich is utterly deplorable. The fact that they’re now doing it in broad daylight is nothing short of an absolute piss take.
If they win the next election, I’m emigrating. I’ll go to Australia and clean toilets, I don’t care, I won’t be staying here
Dizzy will be gone next week.
Sunak will take the reins.
we remain fucked for a long time.
Lol, and we still have people defending the conservatives in the comments.
Have you idiots been in this country for the last 12 fucking years?
We need a change to our “constitution” so that the resignation of a Prime Minister automatically triggers a General Election.
I didnt think he would manage it, but Kier is our next PM. He’s achieved much more than I thought in terms of making Labour electable
No let’s keep truss but experiment on her brain. See can we get her to do loads of mad stuff with electrodes hanging out of it
If one is called, I don’t think the tories would be as “destroyed” as some people (including myself) want them to be, sadly.
This is the Tories chance to do the right thing for once in their careers, for the good of the country, hold an election now.
The sad reality is they will want to cling on to their jobs for another 2 years, dragging us all down with them.
Obviously their own careers are more important than the good of the country.
The question is if Monday’s debate will trigger one.
Liz Truss doesn’t want a GE, and I imagine nobody in her party has the guts to support a vote of no confidence in the government.
Unless Jeremy Hunt ends up making substantial economic reforms, it’s curtains for the Conservative Party.

Face it, all people say (major players, ex Sun editor is one) Keir has next General election in the bag n it’ll be a change in Government. We are now pissed with the Tories.
He will make the case on Monday when they discuss the general election but the tories will not want a snap general election because they will lose their seats they will put their self first
It really does. People are scared, angry and are on the brink of collapse.
There is 0 confidence in the leadership in this country.
Any time a new Prime Minister comes into office a GE should be called within 6 months.
But that’s not how it works. The Tories will be in power for another 2 years before calling an election. Even a small increase in cost of living for the public will have the Tories winning by a landslide. There is zero chance the Tories can lose.
