What’s happened to the 40 new hospitals pledge?

  1. Not read article yet: Is the BBC actually going to call the Tories out on their lies? I can’t believe it!

    Now to read….

Edit: Not really, no. It was a bit of a soft ball to be honest and no where did the BBC bother to quote what the Tories say in their manifesto:

    > **Upgrading 20 hospitals and building 40 new ones**

    > We’re providing £850 million for 20 hospital upgrades, £2.7 billion for the first six new hospitals, and seed funding so that work on 34 more can make progress.

So refurbs & extensions are in the 20, new is the 40 and *does not* cover the refurbs & extensions.

The BBC had an open goal to show the Tories lying….and somehow managed to miss. I wonder why.

  2. Same thing that happened to the whole “no border in the Irish Sea” mantra.

Amazon would’nt deliver frigging Spirograph over here!

  3. Where is £350 million a week to the NHS??

The bullshit of this government and how they keep getting away with it is astounding and will be analysed by historians for years to come.

  4. the NHS would save loads of money if they didnt have to buy a new XXXL hi viz jacket for this fat ,lying, incompetent sack of shit every time he wants a PR stunt to deflect from his corruption and deceit.

  5. Boris Johnson is a lying narcissistic meglomaniac in charge of the country. The Tories elected him as their leader and we elected the Tory party into government twice. Total madness in my opinion.

  6. You’ve misunderstood the figures. The 40 new hospitals are included in the hospitals that already exist, but wouldn’t exist if they closed them.

    /s obviously

  7. They ARE going to build 40 new hospitals with public money…… >!For their buddies who own PRIVATE healthcare -for cold hard cash- companies!<

  8. They just knocked an old section of my hospital down and replaced it with a car park. A hospital regularly at the bottom of the tables for every target with astonishing waiting lists and no beds.

  9. IT. WAS. A. LIE.

I am a nurse and I have a couple of colleagues who bought into this and are looking pretty stupid now.

I have also had a few patients mention that things will be better when “you get a new hospital”

    Yeah……..

  10. The worst thing is that it’s the lack of funding a d investment in the NHS which has lead to the country having to look after it through restrictions and lockdowns. If the Tories actually delivered on their promises we’d have a health care system that could look after the country, not the other way round. This would then help the economy generate more taxes for more funding in a positive feedback loop. Instead the Tories would rather funnel tax money to their mates.

  11. Like everything the Tories come up with (unless it’s something that they or their mates stand to make money off), it was quietly shelved and left to be forgotten about so that it could be scrapped with zero repercussions.

It goes like this: announce a scheme with fanfare and enthusiasm, get all the good PR, then wait till everyone forgets about it and scrap it.

Amusingly the only thing they have ever followed through on is Brexit, which is going about as well as drinking bleach.

  12. What is the point after all death rates of covid chaos then?

They always try to cut the budget down anyhow.

Do not believe what the politician spits out!

  13. Makes me laugh about the 40 new hospitals. We don’t have enough staff to fully man the hospitals we have already, so where is he going to get the staff to cover these “new” hospitals

  14. The NHS has been massively underfunded since the Conservatives came to power.

    NHS funding in 2008: £118.5B ([source](https://www.kingsfund.org.uk/projects/nhs-in-a-nutshell/nhs-budget))

NHS funding in 2019 (pre covid): £150.4B ([source](https://www.kingsfund.org.uk/projects/nhs-in-a-nutshell/nhs-budget))

    Inflation adjusted 2008 £118.5B to 2019=£159.3B ([source: BoE](https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/monetary-policy/inflation/inflation-calculator))

    UK population in 2008: 61.8M ([source](https://www.google.com/search?q=uk+population+2008))

    UK population in 2019: 66.8M ([source](https://www.google.com/search?q=uk+population+2019))

So between 2008 and 2019 the NHS had a £9B cut and had to care for 8% more people.

We probably didn’t clap hard enough to fix the shortfall.

  15. Statement from Boris Johnson “Well erm what, ha ha, is erm levelling up across the nation and we all need to cheer for our hero’s in the NHS, so yes ha ha thank you”

  16. They lied, like the scumbag Tories lie about everything else.

What about the £350 million a week that should be going back into the NHS now that we left the EU?

  17. The Government will proudly claim to have met the target, once a new cafeteria vending machine becomes legally defined as a hospital.

  18. Knew it was bollocks from the moment it left his Eton school pout.

You need doctors and staff to go with the new hospitals and nobody wants a debt of £9k a year a seven year medical course.

That “Austerity” fart worked well, didn’t it. Well done for voting that one in, you muppets.

  19. Credit where its due, the tories have spent 40 years grinding down our collective ability to think for ourselves to the point where they can get away with bare faced lies again and again and again.

Well done, you’ve trashed an entire country. Fuckers.

  20. Pretty much if they so much as put up a garden shed next to an existing hospital, they’re counting it as a “new hospital”.

You know, like counting individual bin bags and separate gloves as “PPE” to pad out the propaganda graphs.

Words don’t need to mean anything when there are 0 repercussions and you’ve got complete domination of almost all media sources to literally re-write the narrative for the bulk of the electorate.

The theft of all those billions, law changes and data theft etc aren’t just damaging from an obvious wealth theft off the nation…

But that’s money which will be used to bribe people, buy out companies to get more power and to also hire a near endless army of consultants who could be PR firms, private investigators, security companies, hackers, criminals if needed, tech firms to analyze and use all the data for optimal predictions as well as buy more, AI and disinformation armies, ad space, funding for party youth projects or whatever else gives them an enormous advantage… As if the game isn’t as good as rigged already.
