Why do people keep doing this?

  1. Yes, it means you’re parking in an inapropriate location in their opinion. In this case you are not in a parking spot, but on a lawn.

  2. People lift whipers to leave a message “your car is illegally parked and/or obstructing trafick, pedestrians and etc” . Clearly you are parked on grass, which is not a parking space and is illegal to do so. It is way to get attension of the driver

  3. Ok, all previous answers are legit, but people also do this to their wipers of older cars in order to preserve them from freezing to the glass over night. It supposedly elongates the lifespan.

Also, if you can’t find a spot to park at night, its ok to park it somewhere inconventional like this, but be sure to be the first one up and move it as early as possible.

  4. Okay thanks a lot guys! This is quite amusing to me because all around the place nobody seems to care how their cars are parked. Everyone parks on the pavement and on the grass, it’s just that in those places the grass is gone because of the cars. Guess I still got to learn the street rules here… Do the authorities ever come and check for badly parked cars?

  5. Luckily, your neighbours are patient enough to do this twice. Sometimes and in some neighbourhoods, people might call the police 10 minutes after you park like this.

  6. Butthurt people do this to foreign or expensive cars even if you park in the same (illegal) spot as everyone else. If your licence plates were Lithuanian they’d leave you alone. Mostly old soviet era farts or their ill-raised kids do this.

  7. Lol, at first I thought this is a post about some asshole parking on the lawn (russia style) and OP is asking for tips how to deal with them. Was surprised that it’s OP himself and who does not understand what’s the problem 😀

  8. Everyone is saying it’s a warning but at the earliest days of winter or spring i do this to not get my wipers frozen to the windows

  9. Was about to comment, that some people are assholes to park on the lawn and then noticed that little text under the photo

  10. As many already pointed out, lifted wipers in Lithuania means you’ve parked like an asshole. Either on the lawn or covering a pathway, an entrance etc.

Parking on the law is also illegal and you can be fined. Any one of your neighbours who lift your wipers can call the police.

Your car could also be towed.

Now the issue of old soviet houses not having sufficient parking is a whole different story. Personally, I though it was a great opportunity to massively expand the parking spaces when a lot of Vilnius neighbourhoods were being “renovated” (and they still are).

But I guess people living there want more grass and not a car park.

  11. Yeah, I have no idea why people keep parking on the grass! Or blocking the way for other cars. Or taking away space from pedestrians.

  12. It’s one of two things… Either he’s a good samaritan that doesn’t want you to have damaged swipers in freezing temperatures -or- maybe you shouldn’t park on the lawn.
