r/Ireland in a nutshell

  1. Well, yes, if you actually feel like it’s a good idea to move from your home country, that means your home country has major issues and it’s bad of course

  2. I think there are a couple of points to make around the constant “Ireland is shit, I’m emigrating” posts.

    – If you’re a young person, going abroad for a few years can be a fantastic experience and one that can actually
improve you as a person and improve your career later.

    – “Emigrating” is misleading. This isn’t 1850, once you emigrate, it’s not like you can never come back. You can always come back after a year, 5 years, 10 years, or stay there forever, but it’s not as final as so many people make it out to be.

    – People often ask where they plan on going, and the answer is invariably somewhere that has very similar issues to Ireland, so there is definitely a “grass is greener” mentality amongst people, and there is the potential they will be very surprised when they get to where they are going.

    – Lastly, most of those posts are people who have no intention of leaving. It’s like when your friend wants to leave a party but won’t leave until they’re sure everyone else is going with them.

  3. I don’t regret leaving Ireland but its odd to see so many posts with the same idea. Search the sub lads and ladies!

  4. You’re close, but you have to work in never ending moronic dogshit about how terrible Ireland is with the insistence another 2 million people should decide to join us imminently.

  5. Well they hear every day that the country is a shithole and all they have to do is vote Sinn Fein PBP in the next election in 2 years time and it will all be better.

There’s a promise that is going to come back to bite Sinn Fein PBP on the arse in 7 years.

  6. I moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada a year ago.
If youre thinking of leaving Ireland consider coming here; lots of jobs, lots of accommodation, lots of things to do, buzzing nightlife, low taxes, high wages, close to the mountains, sunniest city in Canada, hardly ever rains, up to +35 in the summer, – 35 in winter but we get Chinook winds which give u a break from the cold and theres no rain so the snow is like powder and theres infrastructure in place to avoid the snow etc.

  7. I started in Ontario in 2016, than left after 6months, lived in Montréal, left there after 6 months, drove across the country for 2 weeks to Vancouver, ultimately settled in Calgary and honestly its the best city IMO.

  8. Really? Walked through town last night and the place was hopping; usual bars/club stuff, people outside waiting to get in, patios full coz the weather is still gorgeous! There must have been a rave on too because you can spot the crowd making their way to the Palace.

  9. I feel like Ireland is such an insular place-it’s good to leave, even just on holiday, or for a short stint working holiday abroad (and not those obnoxious kinds where you go with 20 other Irish people!)

  10. If you decide on America, try Seattle. My son lives there and would do well to meet some decent Irish folk. He makes good money but hasn’t met the right one. 😀
