What do you mean by “Irelands first wilderness area”
Disappointing that Ireland’s most remote area is only 6.8km from the nearest house.
Climbing Nephin is interesting and scary , going up through blue skies and sleepy hills , the weather is great and the climb is gentle.. then it’s like the mountain awakens to you and hail stones and wind erupt to send ya hurrying down. I felt afraid going down and I was with my friend.
I would have thought the area further out towards bellacorrick would be more remote, there’s an area about the size of Dublin City with nothing in it but wind turbines
Are they getting rid of the sheep and deer? If not it’ll look like every other place.
Is it nice to hike in? Or just miles of grazed land?

There’s a trail for hiking from Letterkeen near Newport. Great views up on the purple loop https://walks.mayo.ie/WalkingTrails/LocalisedLoopWalks/LetterkeenLoops/
I thought it the remotest place was where bear Grylls was dropped off to survive for the week on the landscape.
Imagine the SCPs that could be roaming around there
Is that where Bear Grylls was?
Is this actually classed as the remotest part of Ireland? Dumb question but how how does this classed? Furthest distance from a house/village/town?
