Considering how much Reddit hates older people most of the time, it wouldn’t surprise me if that was actually the reaction.
Arguably might help with the labour crisis. They’ll all be next to fucking useless but hey.
We’ve got more vacancies than workers, so depending on the type of job this might be good.
When the old have to come back to help the young in any democracy then, you know that in the end social upheaval is coming. This is not good. If you’re a pensioner protect yourself from the evil out there that is lurking.
No way this is true – it’s the number they are hoping they can entice back
Well, why didnt they save more into their pensions?
That was the plan… Returned skills.
Companies better increae ‘Teas’ budget.
For those in the 700,000 that voted tory – well, well, well if it isn’t the consequences of your actions.
Get it right up you. Pretty shit when the government policies don’t work for you right?
Imagine showing all the 70+ how to use modern technology, bad enough showing my mom how to use her smart phone, which she has been using for 10 years…
I can see it now “England’s unemployment rate plummet under Conservative rule!”
I feel awful for the people who are actually contemplating this. My Mum hasn’t got long to wait till she retired and she’s so ready for it, counting the months.
I hate to sound pessimistic, but:
I would be curious as to which companies will be employing these retirees. A few years ago, when I was barely past the age of 20, I was having difficulty finding employment. I went to so many interviews wher I felt like we had good vibes.
Now I can’t say for sure, could’ve just been a bad time for job searching in general, but I swear it’s because a lot of places, if they can, would rather hire younger workers so they don’t have to pay as much, even though they’re doing the same work.
Also, I cannot see a lot of older workers going back into something like office work as it’s often tech-based/software based now. Don’t wanna paint everyone with the same brush, but my own experience tells me that a lot of older people are a nightmare to teach on the new stuff (tech-wise).
Also, in this country (UK), I feel like there’s not really the infrastructure for older people. Once you’re a certain age, I feel like they put most people in a home or forget about them at home, or shove them into bingo halls. I wish we had something like Japan where the eledelry can can go out and learn and they actually have specific low impact jobs for the elderly.
