‘Deeply Worrying’: UK Anti-Abortion Groups Turn Focus to Students

  1. These protestors are useful idiots who are being used by the religious right wing to create a wedge issue that can be used to make people vote against their best interests.

Abortion was [not historically a concern](https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2014/05/religious-right-real-origins-107133/) for evangelicals

    > Today, evangelicals make up the backbone of the pro-life movement, but it hasn’t always been so. . .In 1968, for instance, a symposium sponsored by the Christian Medical Society and Christianity Today, the flagship magazine of evangelicalism, refused to characterize abortion as sinful.

It only became an issue after segregated (white only) religious schools in the American south had their [tax exempt status removed](https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/opinion/anti-abortion-politics-have-always-been-the-right-wing-s-trojan-horse-for-racism/ar-AAYFhbi)

    > [Jerry] Falwell, urged by Paul Weyrich, a conservative activist and co-founder of the Heritage Foundation, came to see something unique in abortion, a secret weapon that could allow this issue to serve as a means to an entirely different end. Opposing abortion rights was the Trojan Horse he and other white, Southern evangelicals had been looking for to repel integration and reify white supremacist patriarchal power. What spawned the modern anti-abortion movement wasn’t even abortion –– it was racism.

And, of course, ‘[the only moral abortion is my abortion](https://joycearthur.com/abortion/the-only-moral-abortion-is-my-abortion/)”

    > Recently, we had a patient who had given a history of being a ‘pro-life’ activist, but who had decided to have an abortion. She was pleasant to me and our initial discussion was mutually respectful. Later, she told someone on my staff that she thought abortion is murder, that she is a murderer, and that she is murdering her baby. So before doing her procedure, I asked her if she thought abortion is murder — the answer was yes. I asked her if she thought I am a murderer, and if she thought I would be murdering her baby, and she said yes

  2. We always think “it’ll never happen here” until it does. People also thought they’d never overturn Roe vs. Wade and look where that complacency got them. These people have very deep pockets and they’re in it for the long haul, the price of failing to resist them is seeing the same erosion of reproductive rights here sooner or later.

  3. Anti abortionists are the same people funding trans hate.

    Alliance Defending Freedom ADF

They operate internationally and the same people who pretend to be defending women against trans people are taking cash donations from the same people who fight against trans and LGB people AND lobby against abortion.

These people are Christian fundamentalists and they are responsible for spreading countless lies and misinformation about trans people.

  4. They can try lol

Like, outside of NI, they’re not going to get very far. Probably the one issue the British Public unanimously agree on.

  5. Idk why people are acting shocked now, these groups have been operating for years and they got to where they are in the UK for being anti trans at first before switching to being anti abortion along side it.

  6. im guessing alot of female students are not going to care one jot. Meanwhile even male students like to have sex, and dont gain from women being forced to have sex alot less.

  7. be interesting to see how the uni’s react to seeing groups of elderly white males harassing female students because thats what 95% of the ‘protesters’ are.

  8. I was friends with a fair few Christians at uni. I’d say only one was adamantly pro life (he was male though). All the women were pro-choice, under the idea that they did not necessarily like it but understand some women will want access to them. If that is representative of other religious students then these groups are in for a struggle.

  9. It’s crazy to me anyone would have an issue with abortions. Just google late term abortions and what they do. You’ll find they’re 100% safe.

The fetus is injected in heart with a chemical until they can confirm the heartbeat has stopped. Once it’s dead the doctors will then pull of its arms and legs and extract them separately before blending up the remains that are then pulled out through the vagina.

100% safe both emotionally and physically.
