Prime Minister Liz Truss will hold a press conference later, amid speculation she is going to announce a U-turn on plans to cut business taxes.
Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng has flown back early from a US trip for urgent talks with the PM.
The chancellor will not be at the prime minister’s side when she makes her statement in Downing Street.
Ditching a planned rise in corporation tax rise was central to Ms Truss’s Tory leadership pitch.
It comes after the government’s mini-budget spooked the markets and sparked a revolt among Tory MPs.
For days, Ms Truss has faced calls to drop parts or all of her economic plan to calm market turbulence and reassure her party.
Ms Truss has already U-turned on her plan to scrap the top rate of income tax and some Tory MPs believe another change of course is inevitable.
A further U-turn is likely to seen as a blow to Ms Truss’s political authority only 39 days after she became prime minister.
She’ll U turn and all will be forgiven until she fucks up again.
Getting really tired of this cycle.
Her and Kwasi seem to be having their ups and downs. What a sad affair this is
My guess is the press conference will be in the rose garden, and they will claim they only slashed taxes on the rich to test their eyesight.
I’m hoping they triple down into a complete breakdown and starting accusing everyone of being part of the anti growth lobby and how the tories have been infiltrated by socialist corbyn clones secretly plotting to make everyone into migrants and take away your electric.
Might move just a few more people away from the Tories or at the very least itll be a despairing laugh to watch
Somewhere Rishi Sunak is saying “I told you the economy couldn’t handle tax cuts”.
So just so I understand this.
She is sacking Kwarteng for implementing her policy, the policy she was elected by memberhip upon and was the flagship of her leadership
She as PM signs off the budget.
She is now reportedly going to do some of the things Sunak was going to do all the while the things Sunak said were dumb have been proven to be catastrophically dumb.
She promised not to increase corporation tax yet is now increasing corporation tax. She promised tax cuts and now there are no tax cuts.
Yet she will maintain she is suitable to lead the country?
I feel like I am in an episode of black mirror. She is fucking nuts and anyone that supports her at this point is literally (I mean literally) insane.
Even though it was the plan and I signed off on it, i am going to throw Kwasi under the bus.
