Tesco could face empty shelves over pay dispute, Unite union says

  1. ‘Strike action at Tesco could lead to empty shelves in the run-up to Christmas, the Unite trade union has said, after its members voted to walk out unless they are offered a pay deal that keeps pace with inflation.’

  2. What, the Guardian not blaming this on Brexit, the world has gone mad.

    Edit.

Give it a minute and the usual suspects will be here to say it’s all because of Brexit anyway😂

  3. Before the pandemic and the huge windfalls that has brought for retailers. Tesco was earning profits the equivalent of paying every single one of it’s staff £8,000 per year more. When the majority of their staff are minimum wage and part time. That is quite possibly doubling their income.

Now you can argue that some people work longer hours, or that the business needs profits to cover expansion and renovations. But frankly I don’t care. There is the equivalent of £8,000/year in profits not going back in to the communities of the people who created that surplus. It’s being extorted through the creation of an economy that seeks to keep them living in precarious circumstances.

    This is unacceptable.

If you work for Tesco strike. I will bring hampers to your picket lines. It’s what the baby Jesus would have wanted.

  4. I hope they do strike. And I hope Tesco caves into their demands. Then I hope all supermarket staff across the country see this and mimic it.

  5. The reality is that Tesco are offering a pay cut. Anything below inflation is a pay cut. Anything that does not leave Workers with a stable disposable income that has increased at the rate of inflation is a pay cut. Disposable Income is just as important as Profit. It is what Workers use to pay you for your goods and services.
