[Mícheál Lehane] It’s understood that “a time limited and conditional” evictions ban is on course to get green light from Government.

  1. Nothing more then a real lame attempt to goose poll numbers. Landlords will always find a loophole to toss someone out.

Fix the core issue. Build more housing and stop entire estates and apartment blocks being bought by investors.

  2. Don’t certain conditions have to be met to evict someone as it stands? Like I presume it would be unconstitutional to pass a law blocking people from selling their property or whatever. Could you imagine if the long predicted recession hit and people were stuck with a quickly depreciating asset they weren’t allowed sell.. until they’re so far in negative equity that they then aren’t in a position to sell anymore.

  3. Lord Bill Badbody will have words to say on this.

Did the Irish Landlord League give there blessings

  4. About to have a heap more landlords leave the market. This seems benign but how hard it is to evict people be they delinquent tenants or mortgage payers is why no banks want to trade here and half the reason we’re in this mess

  5. I have lived in other European countries where renting is the norm. There are generally, very strict rent controls, once a tenancy is entered into. Landlords who sell their property do so with tenants in-situ and the property is offered as an ongoing investment. Most apartments were owned by investment funds/pensions and those were the best maintained. But, if you were not to pay your rent, you’d be evicted eventually.

I believe that Ireland’s rental market needs to mature in terms of regulation and oversight.

  6. It won’t be worth a shite. They’ll leave loopholes / won’t be enforceable.
Im willing to be money it’s just lip service / the appearance of doing something
