Either because of increasing prices or national security concerns previously outsourced production will have to be reshored to the US and Europe in order to keep afloat in modern times. The period where western profits could be earned but negative externalities could remain abroad like the air and water pollution from refining rare earths, or the environmental disruption caused by tearing up rocks to get the materials out of the Earth’s crust is pretty nearly over.
