I started renting flat in a new small building 4 (floors) I’m Canton Zurich since this month. today i got mail that wipes in canalization caused canalization blockage and that the 2500chf cost for fix will be distributed to the tenants (there is like 25 flats. There is also a hairdresser in the building on the ground floor with toilets where anyone can go. Is there something i can do? Anyone can come to the building and block canalization three times per day. Unfortunately my German is only B1. Picture of letter

  1. Unfortunately a blockage can’t be attributed to one particular party until it’s unlocked. If it turns out it’s clear with human hair, it’s probably the hairdresser’s fault. If they can’t attribute the blockage to a single party ie, the blockage was made of fat because someone disposed of cooking grease incorrectly, then the bill usually falls to whoever owns the freehold of the property to pay, then recoup from the tenants. But CHF 2500 divided by 25 tenants isn’t too bad and I’d be surprised if that covered the full cost of the with required to unblock the pipes, realistically.
