Is this a real message from Vero?

  1. A general rule if you get this kind of message and want to be sure it’s fake, log into the official site by, in this case, googling Verotoimisto(do not open the link) and log into it that way. If it’s an official message they always tell you to log in via the app or the web page and never even send a link.

  2. It’s a scam. And they don’t inform you about tax return by a text message. It’s a letter and they send in spring.

  3. Never open links you get through sms. If the tax office or Kela or any governments entity wants your attention, they will mail you, or some times send an email to you through suomi.fi

  4. Without understanding the language you can look at the address and almost immediately tell it is not legit. If they used a FI top level domain maybe.. But even then it looks suspicious not having ”vero” anywhere in the domain.

And if you in future get any messages via email, sms or otherwise. Never click them. Always know the official website. Also do not trust Google search because sometimes scammers have an ad opening their fake phishing web page.

  5. Official finnish agencies rarely send SMS and when they do they don’t include links, mostly. If they do include links, the links end with .fi and the domain name includes the agency name like [vero.fi](https://vero.fi) (tax), [poliisi.fi](https://poliisi.fi) (police), [kela.fi](https://kela.fi) (benefits and other services) etc. Banks also use .fi

If you are unsure of any links provided in the SMS, don’t click them. It’s better not to trust anything than to just click everything. Sender ID in SMS is not proof of a sender. Anyone can send SMS with any sender ID. Be careful and don’t get scammed.

    > How to tell that an incoming message is an authentic message from the Tax Administration?

    > It is normal to receive automatic notices from the Tax Administration’s electronically provided services, for example, from MyTax. You may get them by e-mail and as text messages. However, no links are ever included in our notices and messages.

    > In the same way, the Tax Administration never asks about taxpayers’ credit cards or about taxpayers’ e-bank user IDs and passwords. We would have no use for that information.

    > The Tax Administration never asks for your personal information, such as your ID code, bank account information, etc., by e-mail or text.

    > Similarly, the Tax Administration never sends e-mail that would contain a notice of assessment or any related tax information.

    > This means that if an e-mail arrives to you that appears to be a decision letter informing you of a tax refund, it must be a scam.

    > Another characteristic of a scam message is the presence of spelling and grammar mistakes. Sometimes, but not always, the messages have a messy appearance.

  7. All messages with links are fake. Usually they state to use lets say omavero without providing link

  8. I’ve always thought that these scams are aimed mostly to elderly people, but now when I think of it, non-finnish speakers (who also may be unaware of security policies of Finnish agencies) are another obvious target. Good you asked!

  9. Here’s a quick rule of thumb: Show the suspicious message to a Finn. If you hear laughter, it’s a crude scam.

Even though Google Translate has been getting better over the last 20 years, it’s still very very broken. If you’re a native, you can usually notice multiple hilarious mistakes in each sentence. If you only know the basics of Finnish, you might find some suspicious bits here and there.

  10. Don’t click on there, rather visit [vero.fi](https://vero.fi) and use your bank credentials, if there are messages about “tax returns” , stated as “palautuksia” here in the message, you will see them. Its almost impossible that you have tax return without that being stated in your official tax web page ([https://vero.fi/en/individuals/](https://vero.fi/en/individuals/) -> “login in to MyTax” top right , which will take you to [https://vero.fi/en/e-file/mytax/](https://vero.fi/en/e-file/mytax/) -> Sign in)

The link “[korvaukset.co](https://korvaukset.co)” doesnt seem to work anymore, which mean that it has been notified by authorities.

Never click on links provided by SMS or emails , rather check official sites.

  11. Those are pretty basic scams, u click the link type in your info then the page starts loading for infinity. Thats bcs its a fake page and u just gave them your info. You can literally type anything in and it will start loading.
