Since we’re talking about Finnish veterans, I’m a Mexican who is fascinated with Finnish History and reading a lot on the Winter War, you Finns are a different breed of warriors. Yet you guys are humble & don’t hero worship (compare to the US)

General Pershing was the highest ranking US Army General ever and wanted to have the same tombstone in Arlington as his fellow soldiers. Not all Americans “hero worship” but we are fascinated by the stoic service and work ethic of the greatest generation. Anyways thanks for sharing this soldiers story.
Hero worship is awkward and embarrassing. Just do the job and then get to go home. Win-win.
He was the first non-officer, who was awarded the Mannerheim cross. The AT gun he captured did not have working sights (or any sights) so he aimed at the tanks through the barrel. Survived the war and lived until 2002.
This guy pulled out the UNO reverse card before it was created.

It amazes me how America is brought in the most unexpected ways. E.g., the OP is talking about his fascination with the history of Winter War and somehow the post ropes in America, a country that was not a combatant in that conflict.
