I had read about this before but never seen this video… Thanks for posting
I have the Sunday World article from when this actually happened in an old scrap book 🤣
Holy wars…the punishment due
Spinal Tap not a patch on these lads.
I feel like it would be much smarter not to talk about a highly controversial topic you barely know anything about to a large group of people who were impacted by it.
Knew a guy that was at the Megadeth gig. Said it went mental. Wasn’t into metal at the time myself.
I was at it (and it was in the Antrim Forum, not Belfast) and standing about 10ft in front of Mustaine when he said “give Ireland back to the Irish with Anarchy”. A mate and I looked at each other and were like ‘holeeee fuck…. this will not end well’. My future BiL was there too. He burned his merch outside the gig then went home and burned all his Megadeth stuff…. records, shirts posters, patches…. all of it He’s grown up a lot since then.
I met Mustaine and the rest of the band at a signing in Tower Records in London in about 90 or 91 and asked him when they were coming back to play NI. He looked at me hard and said they wanted to see how the Dublin show went on whatever tour they were on at the time (think it was the ‘Rust in Peace’ album).
Poor Dave …… I think most of the 80s was a blur for him.
Brilliant guitarist though.
I was at the My Chemical Romance gig there in June when Gerard Way started talking about he’d rather be here than performing in front of the queen, and the second he said Queen of England, everyone booed.
He was absolutely baffled and then revisited it the comment after a few songs. “Funny, we play some songs and now you don’t care about the queen!” 😂
The following night he said “So we learned you guys reeeeaaallly aren’t fond of the queen…”

Here’s Dave directly telling the story:

Also, bootleg records say that a recording of this gig exists and I’ve been searching for years for it:
