Royal Mail workers walk out in first of 19 days of strikes

  1. I always give them a quick beep as I’m driving past out local picket line. Hope they get what they want, hope people in our company take some inspiration and strike too.

  2. I support the train strikes as there is a fixed network and the conditions are always gonna get imposed to those who work in that network.

But many other companies have demonstrated to be very efficient at mail delivery at competitive costs. If this is a particular Royal Mail issue then, power to them, but other companies with happier workers should rat their breakfast.

  3. It’s not just about pay, yes we were offered a £6 per week pay rise. If we accept that we would lose £26 per week.

RM want to change delivery spans to 12pm – 8pm as ‘this is what the customer wants’!

They want annualised hours, we will be contracted less in the summer so they can force us to work longer in the winter.

Part time contracts, all our part time staff have been told that they will never get a full time contract and all new starts will be on a lower rate. Our part time staff work full time hours, it’s to screw them out of holiday pay.

Our office has 10% vacancies, that workload is forced into the staff, anyone goes off sick/injured and that workload is forced onto the staff.

But, yes, it’s all about our greed.

  4. Can anyone clear this up asap

Ordered something, it’s coming special delivery royal mail. He’s gonna post it today

Am I gonna receive it within a week? Or would I be better off calling him this morning and saying use DPD or something?
