An NHS in crisis and boom time for private health: that’s the bleak prognosis now | Aditya Chakrabortty

  1. I find it unacceptable to be forced to pay for other people’s health care.

People need the immediate reflection of how costly their life choices are, otherwise they deteriorate further. If some prefer ignorance and don’t want to take responsibility for their health, insurance can be an option for them. But they will still need a reflection of how costly their life choices are.

  2. Worth pointing out that private healthcare has similar problems with low pay, staff shortages etc as the NHS, not everyone in the private sector is earning headline top surgeon rates.

  3. Anybody in any doubt about how Truss and many Tories view the people of the country they nominally lead and specifically what they want to do to health care in this country, I urge you to look up the book Britannia Unchained. These people hate the plebs and they despise the NHS.

  4. all designed by successive tory governments who hold positions and shares in massive private healthcare and insurance companies, but you i’m pretty sure you won’t find a conflict of interests there at all /s.

  5. Yet most people will be unable to afford that private healthcare to begin with, leading to a two-tiered health system and an even bigger issue with health inequality.

Staff in the private sector are no better than those in the public sector, they are just paid better and are less stressed due to better working conditions. All that shows how easy it is to fix the problems facing the NHS, it is just that we have a government with no intention of spending the money needed to keep it functioning.

  6. As someone who works in the private health industry I always have to roll my eyes at the people who are like LET THE NHS DIE, I’LL JUST BUY PRIVATE COVER!

They’re in for a shock when their pre-existing conditions aren’t covered, they need a £2,000 Excess just to make the policy affordable, the waiting lists are long due to COVID-19 closures still having a knock-on effect, they can only have two consultations per year, their prescriptions aren’t covered at all and they need to pay £150 per month for some items…the list goes on.

We need to save the NHS but the people who need it the most keep voting in the party who are busy dismantling it, so idk what we’re supposed to do.

  7. Unfortunately private treatment in the UK is still worse than the US.

It’s almost impossible to get access to unlicensed drugs.
