Fine Gael seem absolutely desperate to force us into Nato against the people’s will. Would not be surprised one bit if they try to force it through once Leo becomes Taoiseach.
Keep flogging that dead horse, it might twitch eventually
Wouldn’t we have to have a referendum on this?
could you imagine ireland with some nuclear-armed submarines starting ww3 🤣
This matter needs to go to a referendum. It cannot be decided by bought and paid for politicians and officials.
No we’re fucking not
Can we get rid of our “neutrality” and invade a country with lots of housing we can take home? We could be like America but with accommodation instead of oil
the absolute boot-swallowing that goes on in this conversation is incomprehensible to me.
this might come a shock to a lot of you boys but we are actually a *sovereign nation* and as such we don’t have to do what the EU, UK or US tells us to do? Like we can say no?
jesus christ. I will never understand the mindset that gets *upset* at the suggestion that we can decide if we want to participate in their wars or not – not whether we do or don’t – just outrage that we should be able to decide.
slavish sycophantic stuff like this shouldn’t be anywhere near our national discourse
They are in their fuck.
we haven’t been neutral since we handed shannon airport over to the usarmy. we also sell millions of euro
worth of dual use tech worldwide a lot of which is used in guided missile systems ect. simon coveney is desperate for a nice cushy job with nato
or the likes before he loses his current job & is intent on getting rid of our pretend ‘neutral’ status
I’m all in favour of a bigger military. Ireland should be “brave and strong” not “cowardly and weak”.
How in the name of fuck could Ireland afford to be an active part of any war when we still can’t afford to fix our fucking roads, nevermind sink billions into wars we have no part in. We stray further from logic every fucking second in this country
Ireland isn’t neutral, it is defenceless, Switzerland is neutral but it is far from defenceless. There is a difference.
Since when?
Who is examining it?
They can get fucked.
They’ve been pushing this for quite some time.. Another reason not to vote FF/FG next time around.
There’s not much point talking about our neutrality, our underfunded military has already answered that question. Until we have a military that can actually do something we can’t be anything but neutral.
Don’t we always just switch this on and off as convenient – shipping American troops through Shannon- I always thought our neutrality just meant we were on the side of whomever is winning and reserve the right to change our side
We’re not fucking neutral, never have been. We are a non-aligned country militarily.
No.
I’d guess the majority are in favor of the status quo – I’m against joining NATO.
Naturally we have protection from both the UK, and the US….. Kind of like our Corporate Tax arrangement – we have it good, so don’t rock the boat.
FG/FF are all rimming the EU establishment, trying to line up a handy number, so naturally theyre being persuaded to make the case of joining NATO.
Imagine the yank kickbacks they’d get, cushy jobs boys whose with me?
This is the reason we didn’t join NATO.
Ted Achilles, US State Department
>We did invite Ireland to join the [North Atlantic] pact as an important stepping stone in anti-submarine warfare. We doubted that they would accept.
>They replied that they would be delighted to join provided we could get the British to give them back the six Northern counties. We simply replied, in effect, that it’s been nice knowing you and that was that.
No we’re not actually, the commentariat and a couple of neoliberals chasing jobs in the EU/NATO apparatus are reconsidering it. The people of Ireland are overwhelmingly pro-neutrality (is that an oxymoron?)
fuck the examiner. government mouthpiece pushing coveneys agenda of us joining NATO.

yes we should maybe beef up our navay but we should still maintain neutrality. and if that means telling the yanks to fuck off out of shannon, so be it
If a politician wants to do something without you or your fellow citizens asking for it, you probably don’t need or want it.
Should be put to a referendum no party should make that decision because they’ll just get a few brown envelopes and next thing we are in the middle East bringing democracy
No I’m not.
Oh so now you want the RA do ya?
Nah, there are enough problems already
Fuck that , Ireland fought imperialism for hundreds of years. It would be a shame to see our boys go and fight imperialist wars for the yank and Brit led war mongers
So…the Americans and Europe are leaning on the government of Ireland to get rid of our neutrality. If they go behind our backs and take away our neutral status we have to revolt they must be dragged out into the street and made an example out of, this has to be the line in the sand, I have had just about enough of their fuckery.
Only if the decision makers have to fight on the front line. Instead of watching a war they sent irish men and women to die in from the Dail bar.

For anyone not paying attention…
