‘Glaring double standard’: UK government imposes ‘de facto windfall tax’ on renewable energy

  1. The measures – described by the industry as a “de facto windfall tax” – will apply to low-carbon electricity generators like wind and solar.

However, the government has not capped oil and gas revenue, leading environmentalists to accuse it of “double standards”.

  2. I feel like BJ/TM/DC etc all at least tried to hide their corruption & deception.

Truss looks like she is embracing and advertising it.

  3. It is ridiculous, the previous windfall tax on oil and gas had a 90% rebate on investments they were probably going to make anyway yet this one has nothing.

How can you not detest the Tories when they are undermining our ability to stop runaway climate change which will destroy the lives of hundreds of millions world-wide?

  4. This is so stupid. Manipulating the market on CHEAP electricity while allowing price gouging by expensive fossil fuel producers… FFS.

  5. I love how people is this sub think Oil and Gas companies can lobby politicians to do their bidding.

but they can’t fathom for a second that their glorious green energy companies would do the exact same thing.

Sure if energy companies are making massive profits they should pass some savings on to their clients, isn’t that what the sub have been crying about for months now…? But if these companies want to do the same it’s fine? … right….

  6. Who does truss work for? Oh… Oil companies… The same ones not getting their disgusting windfalls taxed… I am shocked. Shocked!

  7. Everyone’s bill should have the cost to produce or purchase cost if not producing, the delivery cost and then a separate line item for the mark up. I can then decide whether a business is ripping me off and act accordingly.

  8. This is all you need to know really. The Conservatives are so determined to take the country backwards that they’ll restrict renewables development while encouraging fracking.

  9. So they didn’t want to tax oil and gas because it would stifle growth, and go on this tirade that they want to strip taxes from every facet of business…

But they tax wind and solar, the fastest growing in the energy sector?

They are clearly fucking corporate assets. Like what the fuck else explains this behaviour!?

  10. Anything that’s good for the general population, you can guarantee these Tory cunts will try to fuck it up. The next general election can’t come soon enough.

  11. A greener British is what they have all planned for for years and with the prices going up it seems they might get their dream

But .. how will the people or this country react to this

The local sparkies are going to make a fortune setting homes up with free power

  12. What about Nuclear? They’ve also been benefitting massively like the renewable plants due to the rising price in gas, and their running costs haven’t gone up…
