The Luas passing the Odeon

  1. ^(i post this as its mentioned in the 1949 celebration photo thread. Its kind of symbolic, the tram passing the old train station. Where would we now be if we hadn’t made a mess of some the 50s or had the money/foresight to keep the old. Obviously we did some good things (the creation of the IDA etc)) and we were dirt poor.

  2. Impressive as the exterior of Harcourt street station looked and still does, it only had a single 597-foot-long (182 m) platform with a run around line leading to a turn table at the end (what used to be the Red box) The platform was located behind the main end wall in what is now the Odeon bar. The Odeon bar side was the old booking hall with the steps in the pic leading in to it. You can still admire the old grandeur of the station in the bar and get the tram once again outside, although they should consider maybe extending the Luas to Bray as a alternative inland route as the railway once was.
