Hi r/Bulgaria,
I’ve found a popular Russian series [Brigada](https://bg.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Бригада_(сериал)) available in [Bulgarian language](https://www.vbox7.com/user:exclusivtvbgvarna?p=items&q=бригада) at vox.com while making early steps in learning Bulgarian and this led me to the question – how popular it was in Bulgaria?

I was in school when this was aired in Bulgaria. I think it was quite popular, it was on prime time on one of the bigger TV stations.
It was popular many years ago, we have our better mafia serial. “Под прикритие”-“Undercover”
Very popular. Many people are saying that this is one of the best Mafia related movies ever made, including myself, because represents the reality of many countries from the Eastern Block back then.
Same happened in Bulgaria, first the “Brigadi” were fighting with clubs and stuff, some former Mafia guys called it “the romantic period”, then from gangs of former athletes mainly they grew stronger and stronger, became “businessmen” with the help of people from the former spy service (ДС) and ties with some politicians and corrupt policeman of course and most of them end up like the main character in the movie Brigada, killed by other Mafia guys or mabe also most likely “removed” by the same guys who “made” them after they wasn’t “needed” anymore and in their place money went to the other “businessmen” aka the “oligarchs”.
So, we can recognize many of the stuff represented in this movie with the things that happened in Bulgaria also.
Every self – proclaimed “gangster” watched this.
Every “thug” and wannabe gangster has seen this in Bulgaria. Although we have our own much more popular and world wide recognised series called “Под Прикритие” (Undercover) jt also spawned and was the inspiration for the Serbian movies and tv series – Juzni Vetar.
We basically lived it real time..
