FG and FF 12 years of failure, vested interests and greedy landlords will be kept warm this winter with all that lovely greedy money theyve made!
“The memo said the most recent information, for last month, shows emergency accommodation is at capacity in 19 local authority areas and is close to capacity in three local authorities.
The remaining five rural local authorities rely almost exclusively on commercial accommodation.
Those local authorities have advised that such accommodation is no longer available due to the pressure caused by the International Protection Accommodation Service (IPAS) securing accommodation for refugees arriving from Ukraine.”
We really are full up aren’t we ?
Seems to be a mass exit of landlords now from the market. Is it to do with the eviction ban?
I watched the embedded video of that presenter confronting Leo about the 3.7k children being forced into homelessness. The response was pretty awful and heartless. He was just weaseling around saying anything meaningful or taking any kind of responsibility.
“the solution is more supply” I’m honestly sick of hearing that, even if it is the cold truth. I don’t expect the government to build houses overnight. I don’t have answers here. I’m just outraged.
Those 3.7k children aren’t just statistics. They’re Irish citizens. Homelessness like this is going to cause so much damage to our society for years to come and affects absolutely everyone of us.
Edit: I also realize being outraged on Reddit is not helping at all. I plan to at least start monthly donations to Threshold or SVP now as a minimum form of action. Any other suggestions welcome. Cheers.
What way does this work in the south? I know in the north same is happening and we’ve little to no social housing, landlords are all selling up, people are being stuck in hotels and the likes
High taxes and evictions being so hard to do , its left landlords with no choice but to just leave the market. Everybody is worse for it
