Lucy Letby trial: Nurse killed baby and sent parents card, trial told

  1. This case is very interesting and.. weird? Things don’t seem to add up so far for me. Though apparently it could last 6 months and we’re on day 3, so it feels wrong to speculate too much.

  2. Can people shut up about suggesting she’s innocent, offering these wildly obscure possiblities, or that ‘we should wait for the facts’ etc. Obviously she did it, she is almost definitely a baby murdering serial killer. Yet everyone on this subreddit seems hell bent on reminding everyone ‘innocent until proven guilty’. Yes we know that, but that’s avoiding discussing the obvious logical conclusion that she is guilty? It’s not intellectually impressive to be contrary all the time.

  3. I’m one of those don’t judge until both sides are heard. Not because I want her to be wrongly accused, as it happens I hope she has done them so that an innocent persons life hasn’t been ruined. I don’t think it’s right the way the whole thing has been brought about, such as naming her long before even taking her to court.

On another note I am intrigued by the motive of why should it prove to be her. I don’t subscribe to some people just do evil things, there’s normally a trigger for peoples actions.

  4. Yeah, she’s probably a psychopath. You can tell the comments that don’t do true crime things, the HoW cOuLd SoMeOnE dO tHiS?!

Because people murder. Always have. Always will. Maybe try to figure out the psychology behind the desire to kill them rather than BuT sHe CoUlD bE iNnOcEnT!

  5. I feel so sorry for parents expecting babies and knowing they may have to have their infant in a hospital where these things have been allowed to happen

the serial incompetence is off the scale

  6. Look at those dead eyes. If she’s proven guilty I truly hope someone bumps her off in prison.

  7. What an odd case, especially scary because how normal she appears. I imagine the reason it took so long to go to court is because the case is very complex to prove. I find certain things like looking up the parents on Facebook afterwards is highly suspicious. Although some of it may be circumstantial, she is either a terribly incompetent nurse, or a serial killer.

I’m interested in why she did it, was it the thrill of not getting caught, the control over life and death or the effect it had on other people. It reminds me a little bit of Harold Shipman, except he targeted elderly people, it was similar in the sense that they targeted people who are statistically likelier to die to not arouse suspicious.

  8. I don’t know how UK courts work, but if they can’t prove a cause of death and thus that the babies were murdered, that might be problematic for the prosecution.

Reason I say this is because it came out that at least several of the babies weren’t autopsied.

For the record, I think she’s guilty as shit, but there are definitely some holes here her defense team can poke through.

  9. I reckon it’s up to the jury to decide. We get about 1% of the story here, but everyone wants to give judgement. I have no idea, but have to trust in the system

  10. Not sure this woman will get a fair trial due to the trial by media circus that’s going on ATM. Obviously some things are pretty damning but I’m not sure publishing her name and photo before she’s reasonably proven guilty in a trial is right.

This happened to another nurse. Name and photo all over the papers. Rebecca I think she was called. Found not guilty but still ruined her life

  11. What bizarre kicks does somebody get out of killing babies… It’s something I guess many of us will never understand.

My only fear is that this will then somehow lead on to how this was allowed to continue for as long as it has, and put further pressure on the NHS. Fact is, people aren’t criminals until they are proven to be criminals. They can walk amongst us all the time, so could have happened anywhere, but perhaps there could have been checks and balances put in place to ensure no single person can take executive decisions in isolation without the presence of another?

It’s a hard one to prevent in future.

  12. I would be interested in seeing their staffing levels compared to other neonatal departments, the number of babies cared for when comparing stats to other hospitals with all of this data cross checked against other staff members and where they have worked and previously worked etc. There are so many factors to consider in a case that relies on circumstantial evidence in a setting that is grossly underfunded. Having had a premature baby myself, thinking about how vulnerable they are to infection, even without that, they are still incredibly vulnerable, the lack of autopsies, and the danger of getting the wrong person. Sending cards to parents imo is not an incriminating factor, many neonatal departments have staff who make footprints and cards for parents, for mothers day and birthdays etc. Helping parents who can’t have their newborns at home with them. Still it’s early days and I’m sure there’s plenty more to come….

  13. Beverly Allitt vibes. If shes found guilty id say she’ll be sent to the psych ward for life.

She’ll still be denying it even then.

  14. I’m curious about why, the psychological reasoning to drive her to do this. To go all those years training to be a nurse, and to kill them babies. It’s confusing, I don’t understand why

  15. I think if she is found guilty the why she did it has already come out based on h post it notes found. She said she wasn’t good enough and would never have kids or marry so sounds more like a jealousy kind of rage and seems like she targeted those with multiples as she went after twins and triplets
