We were there a few weeks ago, had planned on taking the boat ride and hiking up, but the weather was so cloudy that it didn’t feel worth it. There’s always next time.
Boat ride was fun, though. Beautiful fjord.
Nice juxtaposition of meadow and mountain biomes. Just be aware that there are some pretty tough wolves, drakes, and golems across that water. Could be worse, could be plains.
Literally to SkageflĂ„? No you don’t đ Unless you’re prepared to have your children tied down to a tree at all times – because that’s literally what was going on there.
To those wondering what posessed people to set up farming at such places (you’d have to carry calves and sheep like 300+ m up a steep mountain from your boat), aside from being pretty as Heaven itself, that’s because you wanted access to both fishing and mountain pastures, just to have enough food.
Interestingly, though, certain spots along the fjord such as Geirangerfjorden would have so warm microclimates it’s possible to grow even apricots there. People do it now, too.

The haze in the air is smog from cruise ships
It’s pretty, but would be hell in every other way
