There’s some gems about alright. The website irishcentral has loads of Americans who claim to be more Irish than us. All my posts have to be approved first because I told them they where not Irish.

I’m thinking we could go about recategorising the Americans and eventually it will pick up. Instead of Irish American we just call them American Irish, and African Americans becomes American Africans and so on.

I saw a clip of an “African-American” comedian giving out about how Nigerians would question him when he claimed to be “Nigerian”. It was a whole bit in his routine. Like no matter the background, all Americans seem to act like this. They legitimately believe that they are essentially identical to those of us in the “old countries”. It’s mad.

To have that man’s confidence, here’s me: Irish parents, live in Galway, kid in a gaelscoil and still feel like an imposter because I grew up in an Irish colony in Birmingham and chose football over GAA.
Best one I had was an “Irish” American telling me they were going to drive from Dublin to London and were suprised about there being a body of water between the two. I don’t mind Irish Americans talking crap but the ones that insist they are “Irish” and not even Irish American when talking to an Irish person are on another level.
