Petsamo would not have remained in Finnish hands. During the Interrim Peace 1940-1941, the Soviet Union was pushing hard to take control of the territory and mines and was massing troops along the Finnish border.
Only reason it the territory was lost, is because the nationalist right wing (Kokoomus and Keskusta) got greedy and wanted to invade Russia. Without right wing parties, Finland would have never lost Karjala and Petsamo.
The nationalists aren’t generally the brightest people out there, but I wonder what kind of brain injury made them think they could invade world super power territory and win.
