  1. It’s absolutely hilarious that after an awful pmqs and a panic within the Tory party, the daily mail decided that this story would be their full front page.

I say hilarious I mean they’ve probably ruined the country.

  2. Who gives a fuck what some inbred hereditary billionaires wear on their heads?! There are serious issues facing the nation right now, this is not one of them.

  3. This is one of the any things which, IMO, show how anachronistic the entire monarchy system really is. We’re literally going to take a piece of treasure looted when the British empire invaded and took over a whole region of the world, stick it on an old lady’s head and then pronounce her and her husband the rulers of our nation for no better reason than his mum was in charge before she died.

There is absolutely no way anyone would even consider this to be sensible now if it were proposed as a new idea, but tradition is a funny thing.

  4. Whilst I am of Indian heritage myself, the idea that the diamond belongs to India is a joke.

The diamond orginated from a mine in India, like many diamonds from that era – pre 1700s – however its ownership changed many times before before ending up in British hands, including being in the hands of the Mughals, the Iranians and others in the meantime.

The final owner was the emperor of Punjab l, which is in modern day Pakistan, so if anything the diamond should be returned there.

Aside from this, many other diamonds from the same mine as the Koh I Noor are now held in the Iranian Crown Jewels and yet India is not requesting these back.
