Finland moves to restrict property purchases by non-EU citizens

  1. As it should be, these overseas investors buy up property and hike up rent prices to crazy levels. i say this being an American living in the EU.

  2. Ok, thats stupid. There will be loopholes or they will just set up a company in EU that will by it as proxies. All of that to limit the freedom on the market.

Better solution – extra tax from property that stays empty for more than 6 months of the year. Works for rich EU and non EU people that were buying houses to speculate. If someone lives there and pays rent then its legit. Negative impact ?
Ruins the market of holiday homes that EU people are mass buying in Finland.

Before I get angry redditors thinking they got a good argument against that – you check if there is anyone living in the home through usage of water and electricity.

  3. “The Finnish government on Thursday proposed a bill that would restrict real estate transactions involving foreigners that could threaten “national security.”

So that means not all transactions but only in certain cases ? The headline is misleading
