This has been known for a long time. Main issue is that the government doesnt give a shit. You should look up the suicide numbers in young people. Prepare to be shocked.
I have bipolar type 2. A few weeks ago I had crisis and felt that my medication stopped working. Anxiety, depression, compulsive thoughts, suicidal ideation… All the warning signals. We have a 30 times higher rate of committing suicide than average. They planned an interview with a psychiatrist… 5 weeks later. If it weren’t for my friends I would have been dead. Psychiatry in Belgium is a joke. Very competent medical professionals but too few and too expensive. I can’t afford therapy every week at 60 euros. I already enjoyed lower prices but the number of sessions at reduced cost is limited.
Yes, play more Tamino on Stubru and our rates will go up for sure!
Funny to be at spot 20 in a top 10.
These are 2010 numbers. Belgium has been going down in suicide rates and ranking since the mid 1990s.
Don’t worry, it’s mostly men. That’s also why nothing will be done about this problem.
Even tho thing are getting better Belgians in general are one of the most ignorant people when it comes to mental health. And stuffing people with pills is not the solution. “Alles goe?” doesn’t mean “Alles goe?” Here. It means ‘I’m pretending to be kind and interested but in fact i don’t give a shit about how you feel so just answer with “cava”’
Not a lot of suicides in Iceland?
Not surprising in a society that values power as expressed by individuals forcing others to do what they want.
People want to be themselves. Take that away, and you get shit like this.
And that’s just 1 cause.
I am doing my part! Wait-
It does keep to surprise me. Belgium is very progressive compared to other countries when it’s about accepting people how they are. There is also a lot of help available for those in need. Friendships and family ties are also strong.
Do al these things still have long way to go? Yes, absolutely, but this chart shows relative numbers compared to other countries. So I would expect for Belgium to be lower in the ranking.
Isn’t Belgium one of the only countries that labels it correctly. In some countries suicide is labeled as say overdosis or car crash even when there’s enough evidence to rule it a suicide.
Mind you, not saying there isn’t a problem. It’s just really hard to compare countries when they don’t use the same type of tools.
