Doctors will no longer encourage gender-curious children to use preferred pronouns or dress as opposite sex under NHS guidelines

  1. Neither of those things are surgical or chemical, I thought the big worry was kids being given hormones or surgery. Are we now concerned that minors will be allowed to wear clothes or hear words?

  2. Here’s some further information about Genspect from Wiki –
“Genspect is known for criticizing and opposing gender-affirming care and social and medical transitions for transgender people.
Genspect opposes allowing transgender people under 25 years old to transition, opposes laws that would ban conversion therapy on the basis of gender identity, and opposes public health coverage for transgender healthcare at any age.”

This isn’t directly related to the story, but tells you what sort of idiots Genspect are –

“In August 2022, Genspect and the Family Education Trust signed a letter criticizing Drag Queen Story Hour’s and calling for them to be stopped, saying it was “age-inappropriate” for “men dressed as grotesque versions of women” to read stories to primary school children”

Imagine the horrors brought upon society by exposing children to “men dressed as grotesque versions of women”. Crumble it would, crumble!!!
    Oh no it wouldn’t!

  3. So strange all this. I don’t have kids but if my son says he wants to wear a dress or vice versa I couldn’t give a fuck wear a dress. What are we so afraid of?

When I was a kid loads of girls wanted to be “tomboys” wore the same clothes as the boys and climbed trees etc.

    Honestly this hysteria is pathetic.

  4. And that is really the problem we have in this country ? Yeah let’s focus on that instead the tons of children go hungry each day makes total sense

  5. Conservatives are completely hysterical over gender, the rest of us I think are just puzzled by it [the hysteria]. What business is it of mine? Why would anyone care what my opinion of their gender is?

  6. The Observer columnist Sonia Sodha links to the full PDF produced by the NHS on this twitter thread:

    https://mobile.twitter.com/soniasodha/status/1583514952190816258

She also has helpfully summarised it in the thread too. Some extracts from it are:

_-A move away from unevidenced affirmative model pushed by Mermaids_

_-An emphasis on multidisciplinary care & integrated approach to assessing co-presentations like autism and ADHD, depression, anxiety._

_-An emphasis that primary intervention for children referred to this service is psychological not medical._

_-A clinical approach reflecting evidence that in most pre-pubertal children, gender incongruence doesn’t persist into adolescence._

_-An approach mindful of risks of inappropriate social transition inc difficulties in detransitioning socially should gender incongruence not persist_

_-Only prescribing puberty blockers as part of a formal research study given the lack of evidence on the risks and benefits of hormone treatment for children & young people._

_-Strongly discouraging children & families sourcing their own puberty blockers/cross sex hormones from unregulated sources_

  7. Seems fine? If a young child says they’re now not a boy/girl but the opposite, what they probably mean is they want to do things that are seen typically as being done by the other gender. That doesn’t make them trans does it so this seems fine.

Children of that age don’t need encouragement, leave them be and they’ll figure stuff out for themselves and find out it’s fine to be a girl who does “boy things” and vise versa.

  8. World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) [Standards of Care 8](https://www.wpath.org/publications/soc) says very different things.

Also, there is a [public consultation on-going](https://www.engage.england.nhs.uk/specialised-commissioning/gender-dysphoria-services/). These NHS guidelines are interim only.

-edit- If anyone has watched the recent Jon Stewart program about gender, this is exactly the same as what went on in Arkansas. They have one or two doctors saying one thing where vast numbers of doctors are saying the opposite.

-edit2- Hello downvoters. How about a reasoned rebuttal instead of clicking a button

    -edit3- added consultation link

  9. Kids shouldn’t be ‘encouraged’ to do anything in this regard. Just have honest conversations with them about what they’re feeling and let them figure themselves out. Give them the full spectrum of social options, it’s not like everyone fits into an exact box anyways. You shouldn’t actively push them in any direction, that’s a recipe for disaster.

  10. With a cost of living crisis, a bond market crisis, public services on the brink of collapse, an energy supply crisis and a political crisis, I’m glad the government is stepping up to tackle the most pressing issue of how to be meaner to trans people.

  11. I don’t see anything wrong with this. Doctors should not be encouraging or discouraging children from anything. This is not their realm of expertise, they are not developmental psychologists – they are MDs.

  12. I can’t find any reputable source confirming this not even PinkNews so I’m going to have to disregard it until further evidence comes forward.
