Hello lovely people from Budapest,
I am Turkish and I settled Budapest for study as an exchange/erasmus student. I really loved Budapest so far but in terms of vegetable variety and accessibility, I really miss my country. We have weekly bazaars in my country where many farmers come and sell fresh vegetable and fruit relatively cheaper than supermarkets like [this](https://ozlemsturkishtable.com/files/2014/09/Istanbul-Pazar-veg-section.jpg). I wonder if you guys have places similar in Budapest. Do you have recommendations?

We have markets too, like Lehel or Hunyadi piac.
They are available, but are generally more expensive, less fresh and riskier than supermarket vegetables. The Budapest variants are not farmer’s markets, most vegetable vendors are simply reselling what they trade at [the wholesale (Nagybani) market](https://nagybani.hu/en) located towards Gyál. Your average Hungarian farmer simply can’t afford to keep an 8 hour employee to sell their crops at Budapest wages.
Though my personnal recommendation is to look for premium-label supermarket vegetables rather than visiting the well-known Budapest markets. Hygiene and food safety is definitely a concern at these places.
Or you can have them delivered, check out Neked terem. Which district do you live in? There is a weekly farmers market near Varosmajori templom (a church, xii district). Google városmajori termelői piac. In Lehel piac (xiii) some small stalls are rented by farmers. Hunyadi tér (vi district) has a farmer’s market on Saturday. In district xii, on Tuesdays (and Maybe Saturdays) there is a farmers market just i front of the local council’s offices (böszörményi út). But do not expect these to be cheaper, on the contrary. There is a fairly big market near Allee shopping mall too (xi district).
There is an excellent Turkish deli on Népszínház utca, vegetables are usually in a wide variety [FB link](https://www.facebook.com/TroyaTorokelelmiszeruzlet/)
Farmers’ markets (=bazaars) are not so cheap either. Still, you can try Lehel piac farmers’ section (on the ground floor, on small tables in the middle) for a budget option. I also really like Városmajor’s farmers market (on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning), most stuff are organic and comes directly from small producers, but more pricey than Lehel.
What you’re looking for is called “piac”/”vásárcsarnok”. You can find one at Lehel tér, Fővám tér, or Fehérvári út (next to the Allee mall).
