Calls for Liz Truss not to take yearly £115,000 as ex-prime minister

  1. If this witch can claim £115k yearly for economically raping the country while making cuts to those dependent on ESA; then this country is truly fucked.

  2. Hold on this is a dangerous and complicated issue.

Yes it’s a piss take by her.

However the logic behind that money is to prevent a very plausible problem with a former PM, who has had access to the highest levels of security clearance, being in a vulnerable or compromised position. There are costs to being a former PM and it’s expected they have this behind them.

Look at fucking Nick Clegg bumbling around for Facebook. He claimed it and he was never even PM.

It is cheaper for our nation both in reputation and potentially even in vulnerability to spend this money. At least, that’s the logic of it.

  3. I dont understand why there isn’t a milestone to reach before your entitled to the pension – like 4 years of a 5 year term to be entitled. Or better yet the full 5 years!

Make these cretins actually put some effort in for once.

Edit: Yes I now realise this is not a pension, my mistake.

  4. It is perhaps aimed at preventing an ex-leader from selling out to private companies but she’s corrupt. She’ll take the money and do it anyway.

  5. She’s a Tory, she thinks she’s entitled to public money for doing fuck all, of course she’s going to take it.

  6. If she lives to be 100 she will have been paid £138,522 for every *day* she worked as PM. It has to be stopped.

  7. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/public-duty-cost-allowance/public-duty-costs-allowance-guidance

    > Purpose
    >
    > The PDCA was introduced to assist former Prime Ministers still active in public life. Payments are made only to meet the actual cost of continuing to fulfil public duties.
    >
    > The costs are a reimbursement of incurred expenses for necessary office costs and secretarial costs arising from their special position in public life. The allowance is not paid to support private or parliamentary duties. The PDCA is in addition to any constituency office which they may maintain as a Member of Parliament. The PDCA allowance is paid from the Cabinet Office vote and administered by the Cabinet Office Finance Team.

She’ll only be able to claim if she does anything she can actually claim for. It seems the criteria is quite strict.

  8. I think 90% of people are confusing this with a salary. It’s not. It’s an expense claim for former PM duties

Not that I’m saying she should get it. But if your ever wondering why democracy fails, this is why. People read a headline and just come up with their own narrative. This is why the tories would win again in 2 years. People are too easily mislead by headlines and can’t be bothered to read into things

  9. While we are at it, let’s take a look at the pay outs to everyone who got elevated to a cabinet position for five minutes recently

  10. actually sick of “well itll stop corruption”.

it absolutley wont. 115k is pennies to the folk you rub shoulders with as PM and every PM in living memory is either now raking in the cash in cushy advisory posts, giving speaking tours at an extorsionate rate at how not to do war crimes, or is nick clegg on a few million a year at FB.

Like 100k a year isnt the limit of human greed. its well past what youd need for a comfortable life but is no where near what ex PMs end up getting anyway.

Lets not top up their salaries when we are jumping head first into austerity v2.

  11. I take it no one actually reads the article beyond the leading headline.
This is not a pension, or an allowance to spend on whatever she wants – it is an allowance to draw down from for costs of official duties as an ex PM.

  12. If Boris Johnson is elected again as PM, will he then be eligible for double the yearly allowance of £115,000 for the rest of his life since he would be a PM twice?

  13. This is why she was nearly laughing during her resignation.
You should have to complete the term to be eligible.

Why should we pick up the 100k bill for this shit show?

  14. It’s not £115k as a salary. It’s tedious that people keep assuming it is. It’s just an expenses budget for necessary ex-PM stuff

  15. I don’t think she should be offered it, but it’s specifically not for personal expenses or in lieu of a salary, but for office expenses such as a Secretary, increased security when travelling etc

  16. This is infuriating.

She should PAY US £115k a year for the abysmal shit she got us all into.

Call it then liz Tax. A tax for “faking it to make it”

Doctors who malpractice get punished and chances are they’re only hurting one person at a time.

She fucks up an entire economy and gets a bonus? Fuck that

  17. As if these millionaires and billionaires give more than half a fuck about what the plebs think about their unemployment benefits. Yours matter, theirs are their own matter.

  18. For someone who wanted to cut benefits, she would look like a right hypocrite for taking this. We know she will take it though, she’s a Tory.

  19. I hear the very valid argument that it’s not a salary or pension, rather intended to cover the costs of meeting “public duties” as an ex-PM.

Just very amused by the idea that demand for this fuckwit’s presence/insights will be high enough to justify an annual expenditure up to £115k.

May as well just get me in. I’m a complete idiot too, but my day rate is significantly cheaper.
