Looking inside the base of Trajan’s Column (Rome) completed in 113 AD. Visible are the gold urns holding the ashes of Emperor Trajan and his wife Pompeia Plotina.

The ashes were scattered and the urns stolen (and presumably melted down) when Rome was sacked in 410.
